The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University seeks a dynamic artist and educator for a tenure track faculty position in Painting at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We seek candidates who are interested to have the opportunity to develop curriculum in the Division of Painting and Drawing and contribute to an innovative international MFA in Painting operating in both Alfred and Düsseldorf, Germany. Candidates should demonstrate an engagement with contemporary discourse in painting and drawing, and a thorough knowledge of the history of painting. The annual salary range for this position is $54,000-$60,000, depending on experience.

Minimum qualifications include an M.F.A. in studio art or design or its equivalent. The successful candidate will have an active record of exhibitions and projects at the national level and growing recognition in the field; three years teaching experience or equivalent is preferred.

  • Engage with divisional & university-wide service including, but not limited to, recruitment, advising students, and other administrative duties expected from faculty.
  • Commit to the university's goals of mentorship, inclusion, and intersections.
  • Teach 24 credit hours per academic year including introductory through advanced levels of painting and drawing, participation in the Foundations program and the Alfred/Düsseldorf MFA in Painting.
  • Conduct creative practice and research to support tenure & promotion.
  • Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment.
