Partner with Financial Aid to increase the contribution of earnings from student employment as part of St. Olaf's financial aid program.

Position Objective:
Envision, develop, and lead an innovative student employment program that supports student development, growth and success in accordance with best practices in the field. Collaborate with the college's Piper Center for Vocation and Career to integrate student work with career development and preparation. Partner with Financial Aid to increase the contribution of earnings from student employment as part of St. Olaf's financial aid program.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Envision, develop and lead the student employment program (for a college of 3,000, and nearly 2,000 student employees each year)

  • Build an innovative student employment program in accordance with best practices in the field
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement initiatives to improve the student employee experience, engage and retain student employees, and support expansion of the student employment program.
  • Collaborate with the Piper Center for Vocation and Career to deliver competencies and skills for employment in the 21st century
  • Partner with Bon Appetit (Food Services) to promote a positive experience and to increase the number of students engaged in this work
  • Collaborate with campus partners to assist international students in obtaining employment eligibility and work authorizations
  • Further develop and implement training and professional development for supervisors
  • Co-coordinate and execute student employment events (student employment fair, mass I-9 intake, student work appreciation week etc.)
  • Participate and lead presentations in International and New Student Orientation
  • Develop and present student employee onboarding sessions for transfer, international, and first year students.
  • Prepare monthly reports, updates, and newsletters
  • Update forms, manuals, orientation packets, student and supervisor handbooks
  • Post all student employment requisitions


2. Lead Community-Based Work Study (CBWS)

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community-based programs and agencies.
  • Network and expand community contacts and partnerships.
  • Direct the Northfield Colleges Tutor program in collaboration with Carleton College.
  • Deliver, collect and maintain confidential records, job descriptions, agreement forms and annual contracts for off-campus organizations.
  • Manage operations, including job postings, student recruitment, hiring procedures, employment paperwork, data collection and tracking.


3. Administrative and reporting duties

  • Manage and maintain student employment operations within the new HRIS system (working with students, supervisors, payroll and partners).
  • Enhance the student employment website, guide and/or provide other educational resources for supervisors and students
  • Monitor and manage student employment data and reports.
  • Track, update, audit, investigate, and correct student records.
  • Serve as the liaison for compliance for student employment and eligibility, including new hire paperwork, work awards, time entry, employment verifications, work authorizations, hiring process, budget reports, etc.
  • Serve as the college representative for former student employment verification with external parties and agencies.
  • Administer employment eligibility and compliance.
  • Maintain and update student employment webspaces and handbooks for students and supervisors annually.


4. Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view
to build a strong and inclusive community

5. Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle

6. Perform other duties as assigned

 

Work Schedule:

Term: Year-round

Shift:  40 hours to be worked per week; the standard 40-hour work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; variations to this schedule (for FTE less than 1.0), or flexible work arrangements, can be proposed and are subject to approval by HR and relevant supervisors

 

Required Qualifications: 

Education:  

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Experience:  

    Experience in a role with that requires strong customer service and listening skills, excellent organizational and time management skills, accurate entry of information into databases

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Education: 

    Bachelor's or Master's degree in human resources, student life, business management, education, or related field

    HR credentials such as:  MAIR, MSIR, PHR, CEBS, SHRM 

Experience:  

    3+ years  of experience in human resources, financial aid, or student employment programming; familiarity with student employment programs, financial aid, and federal work study requirements.
