Kenai Peninsula College invites applications for a 1.5 year Term Instructor/Assistant Professor of Writing faculty position located at its Kenai River Campus effective January 2024 (August 2024 negotiable). We are looking for a colleague who loves working with developmental, first- and second-year students. This position accommodates a schedule with options to teach day, evening, in-person, hybrid, and online classes and also mentor students in the field of writing. Part of your workload will be to provide community and/or university/college service related to the KPC Writing Department with the possibility of serving in the KPC Writing Lab as needed.

To thrive in this role, you must have professional interpersonal and communication skills to work in an environment involving a variety of cultures, backgrounds and age levels. You need to have experience teaching college writing to various student populations (first-year, dual-enrolled, English language learners, and/or underrepresented or rural student populations: non-traditional, first-generation, 1.5 generation, veterans, learning-disabled, immigrant, multilingual) using innovative student-centered teaching practices, current teaching technologies, learning management systems (such as blackboard) and distance delivery methodology. You will be a productive member of a small faculty department, taking on diverse tasks such as mentoring students, committee memberships and community service, including involvement in other professional and/or academic organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:
At the Instructor level you will need a Master's degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, or other discipline related to the teaching of writing.

At the Assistant Professor level you will need a terminal degree (PhD or MFA) in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, or other discipline related to the teaching of writing.

Preferred qualifications include teaching online, using technical writing in teaching or in the field, teaching composition and rhetoric at the 100 and 200 level, and working in writing programs with dual enrollment opportunities for high school students or other institutional initiatives.

Position Details:
This is a full-time, term, 9-month, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary based upon level of academic appointment, applicable academic preparation and experience.

Zoom interviews will include a question and answer session, a 15-minute zoom presentation showcasing a Writing portfolio and a 15-minute zoom teaching presentation pertaining to a 100/200 Writing related topic typically delivered in a classroom.
