ROLE of the POSITION
The UNLV School of Social Work invites nominations and applications for an open rank senior or junior tenure-track faculty position. The School welcomes applications from all strong candidates, and is particularly interested in candidates whose research substantive areas include Cultural Humility as Applied to Trauma Informed Practice, Trauma Informed School Social Work, Intergenerational Trauma, Violence and the Elderly, Trauma Focused Treatment using Empirically Supported Treatments (includes all forms of abuse), or Trauma informed Practice in BSW/MSW Field Education. Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor or above must demonstrate significant scholarship, a record of extramural research funding, strong teaching, and past experience in administrative work. Applicants at the Assistant Professor position must demonstrate an ability to conduct research, teach, engage in regional and national service, and provide administrative service when needed.
Profile of DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE
It is an exciting time to be at the UNLV School of Social Work. We have developed a new focus in trauma-informed care and policy that will be rolled out in three phases, 1) Developing a trauma-informed faculty, 2) A trauma-informed MSW concentration implemented in Summer of 2021, and 3) Development of a trauma treatment center. In addition, the School of Social Work received a $5.68 million child welfare training grant for the state of Nevada and continues to provide integrated behavioral health training to our MSW students via a previous HRSA Behavioral Workforce Grant. According to U.S. News and World Report the UNLV student body is one of the most diverse in the country. A Candidate who is hired will also be in on our new online MSW programing. Also, the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs where social work is housed, offers many interprofessional collaboration opportunities including but not limited to working in the Tourist Safety Institute, an Interdisciplinary Workforce Development Initiative involving Foster Care Youth, and simulation education for undergraduates.
This position requires an MSW and Ph.D. in Social Work from a CSWE accredited college or School of Social Work from a university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and at least two years post-MSW experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
Faculty rank will be dependent upon education and experience as outlined below:
- Assistant Professor (tenure-track): terminal degree, experience, and demonstrate strong research capacity and potential for external funding. Associate Professor (tenured): terminal degree, experience, and demonstrate distinguished scholarship and a record of extramural research funding. Professor (tenured): terminal degree, experience, and demonstrate distinguished scholarship and a record of extramural research funding.
Social Work licensure, online teaching and development, and bilingual in Spanish
