ABOUT FGCU

FGCU (https://www.fgcu.edu/) is a comprehensive public university offering undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 16,000 students. One of 12 universities within the State University System of Florida, FGCU is Carnegie-designated as both doctoral/professional and community-engaged. Founded in 1997, FGCU has seen enormous growth in academic programs, research activity, campus life, donor support, and student outcomes.

One of seven academic units within FGCU, the Marieb College of Health & Human Services (https://www.fgcu.edu/mariebcollege/) offers high-quality, high-demand programs that prepare graduates to succeed in the competitive health care sector that plays an important role in one of the most beautiful, vibrant, and fastest-growing parts of the country. MCHHS comprises the School of Nursing and four academic departments (Counseling, Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, and Social Work) and offers seven undergraduate degree programs and 12 graduate programs enrolling, 1980 undergraduate and 539 graduate students. In addition to academic units, the college includes one non-academic unit, Counseling and Psychological Services, all supported by 89 full-time faculty and 39 staff. MCHHS’s distinctive approach to education and clinical care emphasizes interdisciplinary and interprofessional learning and practice directed toward solving complex problems. Student outcomes, including first time pass rates for licensure exams and employment rates, are outstanding, and there is extraordinary demand for the college’s graduates.

Located in Ft. Myers, Florida, FGCU is situated upon 800 acres, half of which is on a conservation reserve and home to the full spectrum of wildlife from Florida’s wetland/upland ecosystems. Residents of the Fort Myers area enjoy world-renowned beaches and a year-round outdoor lifestyle. Close to being designated an Hispanic Serving Institution, FGCU employs 592 full-time faculty, over 900 staff, and approximately 365 adjunct faculty. FGCU was reclassified as a Doctoral/Professional University by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education in 2022, largely due to growth in doctoral education in the Marieb College. FGCU now has several programs ranked in the top 50 percent in U.S. News & World Report graduate rankings. With a new president and new strategic plan focused on innovation, partnerships with the community, and serving the needs of a growing population and workforce, FGCU is poised for success.
