Job Summary

Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, IN invites applications to fill one tenure-track assistant/associate professor of chemistry position in the Department of Chemistry and Physics, College of Engineering & Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in general chemistry and in their field of expertise, to maintain an active research program i nvolving PNW students, and to pursue external funding. The contract term is to begin August 16, 2024. Faculty rank will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the finalist selected.

Minimum Qualifications
  • an earned Ph.D. degree in chemistry or a related discipline, by the start of the appointment
  • post-doctoral experience,
  • and documented university teaching experience and a strong commitment to excellence in the classroom in a wide variety of courses.
  • teach courses that contribute to the chemistry undergraduate degree as well as chemistry courses that support other degree programs,
  • maintain an active research program leading to refereed publications and involving PNW students and pursue external funding,
  • be involved in curriculum development,
  • and participate in service to the profession, the university, and the community .

College and Department

The College of Engineering and Sciences (CES) serves over 1,321 undergraduate students and 161 graduate students across a wide range of academic programs. The college includes Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry/Physics, Mathematics/Statistics, and the School of Engineering.

The Department of Chemistry and Physics is an integral part of the College of Engineering and Sciences, and includes 8 T/TT chemistry faculty, 7 T/TT physics faculty, and 3 full-time staff members. We offer Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry (ACS), physics, and physical science. The unit also offers numerous service courses that support other degree programs around the university. The chemistry curriculum is designed to address broad career goals including graduate education. All majors are required to participate in faculty-mentored research.
