The University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou) seeks a dynamic and highly accomplished advancement leader to serve as its associate vice chancellor (AVC) for Health System Advancement who will serve as the chief development officer for its health science units: the School of Medicine, the Sinclair School of Nursing, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as the University of Missouri (MU) Health Care. Today, Mizzou Advancement pledges to be the catalyst behind the Flagship of the Future by drawing on the strengths of the division.
Reporting to Jacqueline Lewis, vice chancellor for advancement, and working closely with the academic and executive leaders of the $1.4 billion academic health center, the AVC will lead comprehensive advancement, grateful patient, grateful client and alumni relations fundraising programs to significantly elevated levels of productivity.
This is a unique opportunity to develop a program that has yet to fully realize a comprehensive health systems advancement program and has aspirations and expectations to achieve record-breaking results in the future. Building an exceptional advancement program for health systems is a key priority for the leadership of MU, and there is a commitment to provide the resources necessary for success. The AVC will work collaboratively and strategically to lead a comprehensive advancement program working closely with key faculty, clinicians, administrators, department chairs and volunteers, and will provide strong leadership for staff while assuming responsibility for the development and implementation of a strategic plan for medical and health philanthropy.
The AVC will be responsible for envisioning, developing and implementing programs and infrastructure in support of Health System Advancement and will serve as a key member of the Advancement leadership team responsible for strategically crafted initiatives. This person will also manage a portfolio of leadership and principal gift prospects and will manage their team while inspiring a culture of high performance, collegiality and professionalism throughout the organization. The AVC will oversee the process by which leadership gifts prospects are regularly reviewed and evaluated for the next steps in a strategic process of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Mizzou seeks a seasoned and entrepreneurial development executive who will assess current operations and create a plan to recalibrate an advancement operation capable of raising greater philanthropic resources. Experience in building and running a strong development program is required, as is personal fundraising resulting in the successful cultivation of major and principal gifts. Experience in academic medicine, health care and/or science fundraising is strongly preferred.
