Job Summary

The Department of Engineering Technology in the College of Business and Professional Studies at Missouri Western State University invites applications for an experienced associate or full professor to join the Engineering Technology Department as a Department Chairperson and Faculty member. This Tenured Associate/Full Professor and Department Chairperson position will teach either Construction Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Engineering Technology courses in the Department of Engineering Technology for an August 2024 appointment .

The Department of Engineering Technology at Missouri Western offers an ABET -accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering Technology, a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and minors in Construction Management and Manufacturing Technology. At the graduate level, the Department partners with the AACSB -accredited Craig School of Business to offer an MBA concentration in Engineering Technology Management.

The successful applicant will join MWSU as the campus completes construction of the new Convergent Technology Alliance Center ( CTAC ), a state-of-the-art facility that will house applied learning labs that mirror those in today’s – and tomorrow’s – industrial environment. This facility not only represents the campus and region’s commitment to technology and to regional partnerships, but also creates a unique opportunity for faculty to conduct research, work with industry and government, all while developing innovative industry and field-driven programs.

Essential Job Duties

Duties of the Department Chairperson include:
  • Curriculum Development & Maintenance: Lead the design, development, and review of innovative and relevant academic programs, courses, and curricula in collaboration with faculty members and industry experts.
  • Industry Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with industry leaders, governmental agencies, and community organizations to enhance the relevance and impact of academic programs and research.
  • Faculty Leadership: Recruit, develop, and mentor a diverse and talented faculty team, fostering their professional growth and promoting excellence in teaching, service, and research.
  • Grants and Funding: Proactively seek external funding opportunities and grants to support applied research activities, infrastructure development, and student initiatives.
  • Student Engagement: Enhance student engagement through innovative teaching methods, experiential learning opportunities, and industry partnerships.
Faculty at Missouri Western teach 12 credit hours (typically four courses) per Fall and Spring Semester, and are actively involved in advising and supervising student applied learning. Department Chairs have a reduced teaching load. Professors are responsible to educate students, engage in original research and creative activities that are published or presented in peer-reviewed settings, and engage in service to the department, college, university, and broader community.

We seek colleagues with disciplinary expertise and professional experience, evidence of exceptional teaching, and the potential for scholarly productivity and collaboration with the region and community.

Successful candidates will:
  • Demonstrate disciplinary and professional expertise, and evidence of exceptional and innovative teaching and advising with diverse undergraduate or adult learners (in-person and online).
  • Exhibit existing and potential scholarly productivity as well as the desire to collaborate with colleagues, the region, and community.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to serve on department committees, attend department meetings, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.
Required Qualifications
  • Candidate must have a Doctorate degree in Construction, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a closely-related discipline.
  • Candidate must have an established record of effective teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the rank of associate or full professor.
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability or have a record of effective experience in curriculum management, program review and assessment, student and faculty administration, and fiscal management.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills to effectively engage with faculty, students, industry partners, and the broader community.

Physical Demands

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
