Job Summary/Basic Function

The Senior Accountant, under the direction of the Assistant Controller, provides support to Education and General, Foundation, Land Grant and supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization while playing a key role in the maintenance and integrity of the general ledger. This role will include assisting in the month-end closing process, banking, variance analyses, complex accounting and financial analyses, audit in accordance with Central State University’s policies and procedures.

  • Review, analyze and reconcile, accounts within the general ledger and report on balance sheet activity for all funds (E & G, foundation and other Restricted funds);
  • Prepare, Initiate and process daily as well as monthly standard general journal entries. Review journal entries and transactions for accuracy, validity, and effect to both general ledger and budget.
  • Assist in preparation of month end and year end reports.
  • Assist with the compilation and preparation of annual audit schedules as assigned.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts to general ledger balances on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain outstanding check file activities for void and stop payment checks.
  • Monitors the company’s cash position, including daily cash reporting and monitoring, cash flow forecasting to ensure control of cash transactions.
  • Ensures the integrity of accounting data and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and GASB accounting principles to all activities.
  • Assist Assistant Controller with other duties as assigned.
  • Good organizational skills and detailed oriented with ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and able to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration preferred;
  • Three to five years’ experience in related field;
  • Experience with higher education is preferred.
