Job Summary

The Manufacturing Engineering Technology program in the College of Business and Professional Studies, Engineering Technology Department at Missouri Western State University ( MWSU ) invites applications for a non tenure-track Professor of Practice in manufacturing engineering technology for an August 2024 appointment.

The Department of Engineering Technology at Missouri Western offers an ABET -accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering Technology, a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and minors in Construction Management and Manufacturing Technology. At the graduate level, the Department partners with the AACSB -accredited Craig School of Business to offer an MBA concentration in Engineering Technology Management.

Successful applicants will join MWSU as the campus completes construction of the new Convergent Technology Alliance Center ( CTAC ), a state-of-the-art facility that will house applied learning labs that mirror those in today’s – and tomorrow’s – industrial environment. This facility not only represents the campus and region’s commitment to technology and to regional partnerships, but also creates a unique opportunity for faculty to conduct research, work with industry and government, all while developing innovative industry and field-driven programs.

Ideal candidates for this non tenure-track position will have disciplinary expertise and professional experience, show evidence of or the potential for exceptional teaching and the ability to collaborate with industry, government, and areas educational partners.

Essential Job Duties

Duties for candidates for Professor of Practice positions include performance of activities corresponding with the teaching and service expectations for the department and college.

We seek colleagues with disciplinary expertise and professional experience in manufacturing engineering technology, an aptitude for exceptional teaching, and the potential for productive collaboration with the region, community, and our external partners.

Manufacturing engineering technology comprises the planning, design, and implementation of the tools, systems, and machines used in the production of industrial and consumer products, as well as the operation, measurement, and control of those processes. Practical applications include quality control, machine design, robotics, automation, safety, and more.

Successful candidates will:
  • Demonstrate disciplinary and professional expertise in the manufacturing industry.
  • Exhibit a desire to collaborate and build relationships with colleagues, the region, the community, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to serve on department committees, attend department meetings, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.
Required Qualifications
  • M.S. or M.Eng. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering Technology or a closely-related field, with at least 5 years of related manufacturing industry experience, OR
  • Masters of Business Administration with an undergraduate degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or engineering technology, or a closely-related field, and at least 5 years of related industry experience, OR
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering Technology, or a closely-related field ( ABD considered).
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer
  • Industry-related professional designations such as six sigma, PMP, CMfgE, etc.
  • Teaching or industry experience in areas related to mechanical and/or manufacturing engineering or engineering technology.
  • Interest in curricular design and innovation in the delivery of undergraduate curriculum
  • Success working with students and/or industry colleagues as an advisor, mentor, or internship supervisor
  • Experience teaching undergraduate or adult learners

Physical Demands
