Job Summary:

The Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS) in the University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) invites applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor position (tenure track) in Epidemiology. Individuals with research programs in Environmental/Occupational Health, Global Health, Health Equity, Infectious Disease, Injury, Social/Behavioral Health, or Substance Use are especially encouraged to apply. Depending on the selected candidate's expertise and interests, affiliations with other departments, centers, and institutes across campus are possible, including other SMPH clinical and basic science departments, the Collaborative Center for Health Equity, Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, Data Science Institute, Population Health Institute, the Center for the Demography of Health and Aging, and the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. This faculty appointment will be on an annual (12-month) pay basis. In addition, a generous start-up package including flexible research funds will be available for qualified candidates.

Population Health Sciences is an interdisciplinary department with the goal of understanding, preserving, and improving the health of populations and individuals. The candidate selected for this role will contribute to the advancement of this mission through research, teaching, and service, and interact with a collaborative community of scholars throughout SMPH and across campus. The successful applicant will develop and lead an extramurally funded research program in epidemiology, teach at least one 3 credit course or equivalent per year, and participate in administrative and committee work to support the mission of the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Responsibilities:

70% Research: Develop and maintain an independent program of research in epidemiology. Research programs may include (but are not limited to) innovative study of Environmental/Occupational Health, Global Health, Health Equity, Infectious Disease, Injury, Social/Behavioral Health, or Substance Use.

15% Teaching: Teach 3 credits (or equivalent) of PHS courses per academic year.

10%: Advising: Advise and mentor graduate students in PHS Population Health and Epidemiology programs and other relevant degree programs at UW-Madison.

5%: Service: Participate in faculty governance and service to the department, school, university, and profession, as appropriate.

The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

The successful candidate will teach medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications:

Must have graduate level training in Epidemiology or other closely related field.

Candidates must demonstrate the potential for developing an extramurally funded epidemiology research program at UW-Madison. While any candidates with formal training in Epidemiology will be considered, highly competitive candidates will have training and/or scholarship in one or more of the following areas: Environmental/Occupational Health, Global Health, Health Equity, Infectious Disease, Injury, Social/Behavioral Health, Substance Use.
