Position Summary

The Payroll Analyst responsibilities include reviewing current and past payroll data and documents for inefficiencies, errors and checking whether all amounts are accurate based on hours worked. To be successful in this role, you should have excellent analytical skills with the ability to spot numerical errors.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify and address past errors in the payroll process such as providing retroactive pay or remitting more taxes to the IRS .
  • Examines payroll and time records and other accounts and records to ascertain wages paid and time worked by each employee.
  • Reconstructs incomplete records to establish facts concerning hours worked and payments made to the employees.
  • Auditing employer and employee ERB deductions and contributions for accuracy.
  • Answer employee questions about salaries, benefits, and taxes.
  • Reviewing employee time sheets to ensure they match with payroll records.
  • Reviewing employees’ personal information such as social security numbers, addresses, and bank information to ensure it is accurate.
  • Calculating taxes, including federal, state, and local income taxes, Social Security taxes, and Medicare taxes for accuracy.
  • Reviewing employee benefits packages and deduction for accuracy.
  • Reviewing payroll records to ensure compliance with labor laws regarding overtime pay, minimum wage requirements, and other criteria.
  • Reviewing payroll data to identify patterns or other issues that may indicate fraud or other illegal activity.
  • Report to the Director of Human Resources on payroll findings.
  • Report to the Director of Human Resources on benefit findings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in any related field; 3-4 years of work experience.
Proven experience as a Payroll Analyst or similar role.
Knowledge of state and federal payroll and tax regulation.
Familiarity with using Excel and spreadsheets.
Ability to work under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

· Knowledge of and experience with Ellucian BANNER Human Resources module.
· Bilingual skills in the English and Spanish languages.

  • Knowledge and experience in SCT BANNER Human Resources module, Argos, People Admin.
  • Knowledge of compensation administration principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state employment law and regulations.
  • Knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and processes.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to proactively use discretion and sound judgment when guiding supervisors and employees.
  • Ability to protect confidential information and communicate with impeccable discretion in all matters related to employees and internal processes.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to analyze complex information, and to define and solve problems.
  • Ability to maintain composure under stress.
  • Able and willing to work well in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to respond to emotional employee situations in a calming and resilient manner.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to: walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. May be required to stand for long periods. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
