School of Fine and Performing Arts

Theatre - to teach Voice, Speech and Movement for Actors. The faculty member will teach multiple courses in movement and/or vocal techniques for the program, mentor students throughout the year, and encourage future professional career development. The successful candidate will be a core faculty member who will participate in all faculty meetings and committees with an eye to students' overall progress and health, particularly in vocal and physical expressivity, and development of the body with language. The ideal candidate will assist in developing curriculum, recruiting, committee work, planning and assessment, academic advising, and student mentorship.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Theatre or a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience in one or more voice/movement disciplines at the post-secondary level is required. Candidates must be knowledgeable about current methodologies in voice and movement. Welcomed areas of expertise might include, but are not limited to: Voice and Movement for the Actor; Michael Chekhov; Jerzy Grotowski; Tadashi Suzuki technique; Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints. MFA and evidence of professional work is preferred.

Positions are ten-month, full-time, tenure-track assignments at the rank of Assistant Professor effective for the Fall 2022 semester, unless otherwise indicated. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Courses may be taught at the Union campus, Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands or other locations. Faculty positions located in the Nathan Weiss Graduate College may require evening hours for graduate course assignments.

All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an on-going program of research and publication or creative and performance activity. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement and service at the departmental/school, college, university and community level is also required. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. Proficiency in the Learning Management System, Blackboard and Online Learning Pedagogy is required, consistent with University guidelines. Kean may offer free voluntary Blackboard workshops to otherwise qualified applicants.
