Boston University’s College of Fine Arts invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Theatre, non-tenure-track, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024, pending budgetary approval.
CFA’s School of Theatre is a prominent beacon for the arts in New England. With accomplished, award-winning alumni (including actors Jason Alexander, Geena Davis, Julianne Moore, Alfre Woodard, and Ginnifer Goodwin); five dedicated theatres, including the stunning state-of-the-art Booth Theatre; 40 faculty who are actively engaged in the profession of theatre-making, CFA’s School of Theatre is widely recognized as one of the premier theatre programs in the nation.
The successful candidate will teach in the School’s BFA Performance Department undergraduate and graduate programs and advise students on projects and productions specifically focused in the area of Musical Theatre. Applicants should possess a strong background in music theatre, a knowledge of the music theatre canon as well as a passion for developing new work, and their own professional profile in the field. The candidate should also possess a willingness to work with a collaborative spirit within a team of faculty with varied approaches, and a proven ability to teach beginning and advanced Musical Theatre courses.
Qualifications include significant professional experience in teaching/coaching and musical theatre performance. The successful candidate must have a vast knowledge of repertoire and styles of musical theatre and knowledge of classical vocal repertoire. The ideal candidate will teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, fostering critical study, creative practice, and provocation in the classroom and beyond. Applicants must hold a terminal degree and/or have a significant record of professional accomplishments in the field. We are looking for candidates with strong skills in collaboration and communication, as well as professional networks to help bridge classroom experiences and the profession. Prior teaching experience is desirable.
