Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is looking for an experienced, attentive and conscientious family medicine or internal medicine physician with strong interpersonal skills capable of treating a wide range of medical conditions in a multispecialty clinic affiliated with our osteopathic medical school. The successful candidate will produce individualized healthcare programs based on patient historical data and provide continuous healthcare support for patients and health management advice. The physician is expected to be proactive in building relationships and taking a vested interest in a patient’s well-being with referral to external specialists when patients require treatment outside of the practitioner’s medical purview. Excellent communication and good presentation skills are expected.
The position will be primarily clinical in nature (0.8-0.9 FTEs) and will involve collaborating with clinical staff and other academic clinical faculty to provide stability to an evolving clinical practice. In addition, the position will incorporate teaching medical students, residents, and allied health students in the clinic setting. The remaining 0.1-0.2 FTE may include contributions to the medical education of pre-clinical medical students, service to the college in the form of interviewing and committee participation.
Clinical performance will be measured, and an incentive plan will be implemented to supplement income and encourage adequate revenue production. Basic primary care procedural knowledge and skill is desired.
Please note this position is located in Conroe at the newly developed College of Osteopathic Medicine facility.
Educational Requirements for the Position
Osteopathic degree preferred but physicians holding the MD degree will be considered where the applicant has demonstrated a focus on holistic care consistent with the osteopathic philosophy.
This position requires osteopathic manipulation skills and well-developed communication skills. A background in medical education is preferred, as is experience in pre-clinical and
clinical teaching. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training.
