Compensation: The starting annual base salary range for this position is $55,800 to $62,535 (USD).

Position Summary and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the College for Career Education, the Assistant Director of Career Education/Pre-law Advisor will provide career counseling and education to a liberal arts population and take a lead role in planning and presenting career-related workshops and programs designed to support students throughout their four years at Vassar.

Minimal travel is required. Occasional evenings and weekends are required. This position may be eligible for 1 telework day during the academic year, and 2 telework days during winter/summer breaks, subject to supervisor approval.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide career counseling and education to a liberal arts population, advising students and alumnae/i on topics such as internship and job search, networking, interviewing, and graduate school planning in a wide range of career fields.
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for pre-law advising at Vassar; provide pre-law advising and application support to students and alumnae/i, coordinate with law schools for on-campus and virtual information sessions.
  • Take a lead role in planning and presenting career-related workshops and programs designed to support students throughout their four years at Vassar.
  • Make recommendations for and provide oversight of online and print career resources, including subscription-based products.
  • Sustain and develop partnerships with offices, departments, and programs including the ALANA Center, Athletics, LGBTQ Center, International Services, and Transitions (first-gen/low-income) to provide collaborative and relevant career-related programming.
  • Manage the student-side administration of signature events like Sophomore Career Connections.
  • Provide co-supervision of student workers, oversight of career resources, and special projects as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in counseling, higher education or closely related field preferred.
  • 1+ year(s) experience providing career services to liberal arts college students and alumnae/i.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong outreach, presentation, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including proficiency with Google Apps for Education, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online career-related resources.
  • Familiarity with career services management platforms such as Handshake preferred.
  • The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
