Position Summary:
This Instructor provides instruction to adult learners via lecture/lab and alternative delivery methods in Building and Construction Technology (BCT), including Construction or HVAC to students enrolled through the Arizona State Prison Complex - Douglas (ASPC). These courses are designed to be delivered in an open/entry, open/exit method.
The purpose of the CTE Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Instructor is to provide students with instruction and training in the understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and become familiar with the tools and equipment associated with HVAC as well as to prepare students for entry-level employment in the HVAC industry. The course covers:
- Theory of refrigeration evacuation and charging methods
- Tools, materials, and equipment
- Components; electric circuits and controls
- Installation of HVAC systems; electrical motors; schematic wiring diagrams and HVAC blueprints, Heating, ventilation, and heat pumps
- Diagnosis of HVAC problems using meters
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach construction technology / HVAC to students in a correctional facility
- Review and develop modifications in the construction technology / HVAC course curriculum
- Provide assistance and instruction to students on academic matters, technical and vocational programs, and special equipment
- Assess student skills and develop appropriate vocational study plans
- Bachelor's Degree in a related area and
- Two years of related instructing experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Master’s degree in the field of study
- Master’s degree in any discipline and 18 graduate semester hours in the field of study
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of study
- Bachelor’s degree in any field and 3 years of work experience in the field
- Associate’s degree in any field and 5 years of work experience in the field
- 64 semester credit hours in the field of study and 5 years of work experience in the field
- Industry-recognized certification in the field of study and 5 years of work experience in the field
- License in the field of study and 5 years of work experience in the field which includes: industrial technology; building trades or other closely related field
- Knowledge of skilled trades expertise required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position
- Journey-level central plant and commercial direct expansion equipment maintenance and repair
- Basic repair and maintenance of a variety of commercial facility systems, including basic mechanical/electrical systems and basic construction
- Use of computers and applicable software applications
- Basic inventory and record keeping
- Read blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings
- Principles of estimating job materials and work hours
- Leadership, managerial and supervisory principles
- Skill in effective communication (both written and oral)
- Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Skill in HVAC maintenance
- Ability to adapt and maintain professional composure in emergent and crisis situations
- Ability to operate relevant equipment required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and practices
- Knowledge and application of organizational and time management principles
- Attention to detail, comfortable with working on repetitive tasks with a high level of accuracy
