Job Description
The University of Missouri seeks a Director of Advancement for Compliance and Audit. The qualified candidate will bring subject matter expertise to the Department of Advancement in regulatory compliance and reporting.
Duties:
- Ensure regulatory compliance with the charitable gift accounting policies and reporting standards outlined by CASE, NACUBO, FASB, GASB, and the IRS. Monitor and understand the IRS regulations as they pertain to gift acceptance, processing, and receipting and Section 115 of the Internal Revenue Code organizational operations.
- Serve as a resource and primary liaison to various constituency groups on gift accounting and reporting policies and procedures, data administration, and all database records. Communicate directly with accounting/business officers, development directors, major gift officers, administrators, deans and department heads, grants and contracts, internal audit, payroll, and other departments as needed. Provides advice and assistance to the various departments on gift handling practices, gift acceptance policies, and reconciliation of gift revenue.
- Authorize the transfer of funds across University accounts. Inform appropriate administrators, faculty, and staff of asset transfers.
- Periodically perform reviews of targeted and randomly selected endowed and non-endowed funds to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the gift agreement.
- Audit all data quality and transaction accuracy related to the University’s charitable contributions. Manage and advise on the reporting of charitable giving activity.
- Review and approve new gift account requests in PeopleSoft (general ledger) by obtaining documentation from the requesting department to determine the account’s intent. Ensure that new gift account requests include all information needed to be set up correctly as expendable or endowment accounts.
- Review and identify private grant income received through the Office of Sponsored Support that is eligible for CASE/VSE/campaign reporting.
- Conduct a monthly pledge review audit to ensure the collection of funds expected by the university is accurate.
- Provide guidance extensively on internal gift accounting practices, policies, and procedures, and have a thorough understanding of the alums/development computer database (Advance) and external guidelines (CASE, NACUBO, FASB, GASB, IRS, etc.) that govern the recording, receipting, and reporting of gifts.
- Keep abreast of legislative activities affecting charitable gift issues and be willing to assume additional responsibilities.
- Attend professional/continuing education conferences on current trends and challenges in non-profit gift accounting focused primarily on higher education.
- Assist with interviewing, hiring, and training records staff.
- Provide training sessions to all new employees of Advancement as well as internal and external interested parties.
- Perform other related duties as requested or required.
Salary Range: $75k-$100k annually

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting or other related field is required. Five years of professional and progressively responsible management experience is ideal for this position to provide a wide range of technical advice regarding risk management associated with complex organizations.
