This position exists to oversee all aspects of a comprehensive global studies program and to provide support for institution-wide global learning initiatives of the University. TheDirector of Global Studiesworks closely with faculty and staff to oversee current programming and plan for future directions of global studies development and expansion, including international partnerships as they relate to virtual and in-person exchange. The Director is responsible for program planning, development, and oversight of budgets; hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff; and is responsible for managing an efficient, student-centered department. The director provides leadership within the Office of Scholarly Engagement, supporting collaboration between and across departments for accessible and scaffolded engaged learning.

Responsibilities include:
  • Lead and provide strategic vision for the university’s comprehensive education abroad program.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and implement risk management policies and procedures for safety abroad.
  • Oversee and manage all faculty-led study abroad programs, including program development and administration, policy and procedure development and implementation, program development and coordination.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for financial viability of all faculty-led programs.
  • Overall operational and functional management of all aspects of Global Studies.
  • Supervise and support office staff.
  • Work in collaboration with Office of Scholarly Engagement team, and efforts to ensure students get multiple HIPs experiences.
  • Provide support for university-wide global learning initiatives in collaboration with other academic units.
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation and assessment of global learning initiatives and projects including developing and maintaining international academic partnerships, and managing funding.
  • Lead the Global Studies Advisory Committee in reviewing and approving faculty-led study abroad programs and in preparing faculty for teaching abroad.GSACalso reviews and provides input on the development of new policies and oversees their implementation.
  • Maintain external relations with other programs and institutions involved in international education.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in field related to global education or higher education
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in education abroad
  • Experience with budget management
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and organizational management skills including curricular integration of study abroad, student advising, program design
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues related to major trends, student safety, crisis management, andDEIin education abroad
  • Experience working with faculty on the development of education abroad programs
  • Experience with building partnerships and promoting collaboration



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience living or studying abroad
  • Proficiency in a second language
