Job Summary
The Assistant Vice President of Development is a member of the Drexel University Institutional Advancement (IA) team assigned to develop philanthropic resources for St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children (SCHC). This position will play a lead role in annual, major, principal, blended, deferred, corporate, and event sponsorship fundraising. This position will also serve as the primary IA liaison to the SCHC CEO and Pediatrician-in-Chief. The individual will be a member of the CEO’s senior leadership team and serve as a Unit Leader in the Health Sciences Team of Drexel University Institutional Advancement.
Essential Functions
This position is classified as Exempt with a grade of O, $108,330.00- $162,490.00. The offered salary is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.

Job Summary
The Assistant Vice President of Development is a member of the Drexel University Institutional Advancement (IA) team assigned to develop philanthropic resources for St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children (SCHC). This position will play a lead role in annual, major, principal, blended, deferred, corporate, and event sponsorship fundraising. This position will also serve as the primary IA liaison to the SCHC CEO and Pediatrician-in-Chief. The individual will be a member of the CEO’s senior leadership team and serve as a Unit Leader in the Health Sciences Team of Drexel University Institutional Advancement.
Essential Functions
- Leads the SCHC fundraising program by securing current FY philanthropic support through annual, major, principal, blended, and deferred gifts while also building a multi-fiscal year pipeline of donors and prospects through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private support from external parties, including individuals and corporations, while working collaboratively with the SCHC FCR team on proposals to private and corporate foundations.
- Serves as advisor to the CEO and Pediatrician-in-Chief on fundraising matters and coordinates development activities within SCHC and Drexel Institutional Advancement. Meets regularly with the CEO, Pediatrician-in-Chief, Chief Financial Officer, and Associate Vice President of Development, Health Sciences on fundraising matters.
- In conjunction with the Associate Vice President of Development-Health Sciences, develop and execute a 3-year fundraising strategic plan focused on identifying new donors, cultivating existing donors, and stewarding various stakeholders to increase the number of gifts and the dollar value of gifts annually received by SCHC.
- Builds a culture of philanthropy at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children through engagement of past residents and fellows, current and past faculty, staff, and board members, and community friends.
- Builds and manages a dynamic and evolving portfolio of prospects and donors who are capable of making commitments of $50,000 or more.
- Maintains an active schedule of face-to-face meetings with prospects with a focus on unrestricted support to SCHC. Actively seeks out opportunities to do tours/site visits with prospects at SCHC often in conjunction with the CEO, SCHC Marketing/PR team, and FCR.
- Engages and facilitates giving from the SCHC board utilizing their personal and professional connections and develops a pipeline of future board members for consideration by the SCHC CEO and Vice President of Development.
- Oversees all aspects of the operations and multi-channel giving solicitation efforts for SCHC. Interacts and coordinates regularly with the Drexel Fund, IA Marketing and Communications, the SCHC marketing/public relations team, and the Associate Vice President of Development, Health Sciences
- Annual Giving Program: Expand the program and pipeline with the assistance of a SCHC Leadership Annual Giving Officer (LAGO) to execute a comprehensive annual giving program.
- Resident/Fellows Giving Program: Expand the program and pipeline for engagement with the graduate medical alumni population (residents and fellows).
- Grateful Patient Fundraising Program (GPFR): Build the program and pipeline in conjunction with outside consultant to train, coach, and execute GPFR focused on donor identification, proposal building, and donor stewardship plan.
- Federal Match Program (FMP): Expand the program and pipeline for individual, corporate, and foundation donors through prospect outreach, research, and engagement.
- Blended & Deferred Giving Program: Build the program and pipeline through coordination with other solicitation efforts and focused outreach on blended giving & asset-based giving.
- Stewardship Program: Develop stewardship program which can be multi-channel across the Annual Fund Giving, Resident & Fellows Giving, GPFR, FMP, and Blended and Deferred Giving.
- Community Events: Work with internal and external event consultants (as applicable) on fundraising and sponsorship for the annual Carnival.
- Will build and manage a team of fundraising professionals, potentially including annual giving/events, major gifts/planned giving, and support staff; manage through influence FCR director for SCHC.
- Works closely with the Foundation and Corporate Relations team for the Health Sciences and focused on SCHC; meets regularly to strategize on approaches to foundations and companies regarding philanthropic investment in SCHC.
- Inventory volunteer management at SCHC and seek to create a partnership with all Hospital colleagues who are engaging volunteers.
- Serves as a strong advocate for prospect management and goals of the unit with IA colleagues, reinforcing the vision and direction of the Vice President, IA.
- Uses the database and analytical skills to determine opportunities to engage high-net worth prospects for a strategic, targeted approach; coordinates with the IA research team to request proactive prospect identification.
- Promotes University priorities and image to constituents. Serves as front line staff to promote campus goals and objectives.
- Follows Institutional Advancement procedures regarding prospect management and documenting contacts. Responsible for oversight and submission of all relative fundraising reports, statistics, projections, and publications.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent
- Seven or more years of experience in fundraising in a development program, preferably with a healthcare or educational institution
- Experience fundraising from various constituents such as stakeholders (faculty, staff, and/or board members), graduate medical alumni, grateful patients/families, and community/friends.
- Annual, major, blended, and deferred giving experience required.
- Ability and willingness to travel regionally.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends required.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required.
- Excellent administrative skills required.
- Willingness to work at the Hospital on-site regularly.
- Demonstrated progress in working on major gifts.
- Demonstrated experience working with volunteers.
- Experience fundraising from event sponsors, corporations, and foundations a plus.
- Experience with asset-based fundraising preferred.
- Previous experience working with senior-level executives (c-suite, department chairs, high level faculty, etc.) preferred.
- Knowledge of prospect management systems preferred.
- Knowledge of EPIC, HIPAA, and database fundraising software CS Advance helpful.
