Job Summary

Supervise Police Officers and other department employees in enforcement of local, state, and federal laws, and provide personal, real property, and equipment security throughout campus.

This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA 's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.

  • Testify in court proceedings when necessary
  • Provide public service and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors to campus
  • Supervise Officers to include hiring, terminating and scheduling of work hours
  • Manage performance
  • Supervise patrol shift consisting of Police Officers and Communications Officers
  • Train new officers on shift
  • Enforce laws and regulations of University
  • Prevent and/or investigate crimes, and apprehend criminals
  • Perform duties of a specialized function which require knowledge and abilities acquired through experience on force
  • Patrol designated areas of campus to preserve law and order and prevent and/or discover commission of crimes
  • Answer calls and complaints involving fire, traffic, and other incidents, misdemeanors, and felonies, and take appropriate actions
  • Prepare records and reports, and oversee reports of subordinates

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Other Required Qualifications
  • Georgia P.O.S.T (Peace Officer Standards Training) law enforcement (police) certified

Required Experience
  • Two (2) years of related work experience
  • One (1) or more years of experience with GCIC operations, rules and regulations

Proposed Salary

$21.36 - $27.21 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work

  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Knowledge of Georgia Crime Information Center, National Crime Information Center facilities and services
  • Knowledge and/or experience with State Certification process and procedures
  • Knowledgeable about Georgia Law and office policies and procedures
  • Georgia P.O.S.T (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Certified as a basic law enforcement (police) Peace Officer

  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Conduct research via internet and access data in police records management system, Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) database
  • Proficiency in developing spreadsheets for reports
