Collaborative Research Data Specialist
About the Opportunity
The Northeastern University Library seeks a technical specialist to implement an expanding range of services targeted at collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects. Reporting to the Head, Research Data Services the Collaborative Research Data Specialist ($75,000 - $85,000) operationalizes the library's engagement with impact engines - clusters of researchers (faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students) seeking to address key challenges of the 21st century. The Data Specialist will work with research leaders and administrators across the global network to plan for effective library engagement in nascent and established impact engines and will work to determine and establish the proper systems/workflows to ensure effective research data integration across all spaces. The Data Specialist will also work with library colleagues to develop service offerings that are customized for each impact engine type.
This is a two-year, grant-funded position with possibility of renewal.
Specific Responsibilities:
The Collaborative Research Data Specialist will work with impact engines to set up lab notebooks, collaboration environments, and communication methods, and will handle informatics needs within the impact engines. They will assess needs specific to data capture, organization, and storage, document gaps in technology and communications infrastructure, and explore solutions. The Specialist will implement approved collaboration solutions including communication tools, collaboration environments, and productivity platforms, coordinating technology this integration work with colleagues in ITS and Library Technology Services as needed.

About this project and the Library:
The Northeastern University Library has been awarded a grant by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to study and develop effective practices for collaboration and communication by researchers distributed across multiple locations, as is increasingly the case in Northeastern's expanding global campus network. This project will focus on Northeastern University's “impact engines,” interdisciplinary teams that span two or more of Northeastern's campuses and research locations throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
The Northeastern University Library supports the mission of the University by working in partnership with the University community to develop and disseminate new scholarship. The Library fosters intellectual and professional growth, enriches the research, teaching, and learning environment, and promotes the effective use of knowledge by managing and delivering information resources and services to library users.
Additional Information:
This position is based in Boston and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Specific arrangements can be negotiated at the time of hire.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in a STEM field
- Significant experience working in a team setting; preferably in a higher education setting
- Demonstrable understanding of the challenges of interdisciplinary research
- 5+ years of experience in team research and/or supporting research teams
- Demonstrated ability to lead staff, including setting performance objectives, and coaching/mentoring individuals to achieve maximum productivity
- Excellent oral and written skills, ability to communicate with technical and non-technical individuals, and prepare project documentation
- Demonstrable project management skills
- Demonstrated experience with developing and leading workshops and individual consultations
- Commitment to building a diverse and inclusive staff and work environment
