Summary/Objective

The Director, Enterprise Application Development leads the team of 6 – 8 highly technical individuals who implement, configure, develop (program), integrate, maintain, and improve the University’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Ellucian Colleague and Workday, and over 60 additional enterprise-level software applications. This individual will develop and implement technology strategies and solutions that support the university’s objectives and department-level goals. S/he will be a strategic thinker and hands-on technical manager, responsible for growing and mentoring individual team members, leading complex technology projects, and influencing groups outside their direct span of control. The incumbent understands the ERP and enterprise product roadmaps, prioritizes initiatives, and manages resource allocations, in support of University priorities.

Essential Functions
  1. Direct, manage, and lead the Enterprise Application Development team as they implement efficient, effective and high-quality enterprise-wide technology solutions. Provide technical management and oversight of all modules of AU’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Ellucian Colleague and Workday, as well as over sixty additional enterprise-level software applications. Responsible for managing technical workstreams for ERP and enterprise application project implementations following SDLC and agile practices, providing supervision and support to project team members and identifying and assigning internal and external resources. Partners with OIT management, staff and customer stakeholders to assess technology options to identify appropriate solutions and make technical design decisions.
  2. Manage the Enterprise Applications Development & Integration team: Manage a team of senior application developers to implement solutions that meet campus needs. Supervises staff and provides leadership and guidance as well as conducts performance appraisals; provide mentoring and leadership to team members, taking into consideration and supporting their individual career paths. Collaborate with team to understand priorities and plan technical projects and resource assignments in alignment with priorities. Manage resource allocations to balance workloads and day-to-day responsibilities, leveraging individual team member's technical, analytical, and project management strengths and expertise.


Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position directly supervises at least 6-8 full time, highly technical individuals including senior application and integration developers.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • Full Time, 35 Hours/week.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience with software development and application support, strategic technology planning, integrating complex systems, and designing interactive enterprise-level technology.
  • IT technical and managerial leadership in application development, implementation and integration.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms.
  • Progressively responsible experience managing and developing staff; strong team building skills and ability to gain cooperation and motivate others.
  • Strong experience evaluating and integrating third party technology solutions and services.
  • Strong experience following SDLC and iterative processes.
  • Ability to carefully manage resources for maximum return; proven ability to direct the activities of others in time sensitive critical projects; ability to multi task effectively, juggle multiple priorities and negotiate trade-offs.
  • Strong experience working with multiple application and integration platforms.
  • Strong professional presence, energetic personality, can-do attitude, experience working with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Strong vendor management skills, including the ability to lead negotiations, and experience analyzing and applying a vendor roadmap to project planning and goal setting.
  • Highly effective written and oral communications skills, strong presentation skills.
  • Interest in trends and developments within the technology industry and a passion for the potential of technology tools to transform processes.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree or equivalent.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms, in particular Ellucian and especially Workday.
  • Experience with Workato integration platform.
