Health and Exercise Physiology

Overview

The Department of Health and Exercise Physiology at Ursinus College invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor to join faculty committed to teaching and research involving undergraduates in Fall 2024. The Department seeks an individual with practical and research experience in nutrition who can contribute to courses relating to human health and wellness. Ursinus College is a highly selective, independent, co-educational, residential liberal arts college of approximately 1500 students located about 25 miles northwest of center city Philadelphia. With a diverse community of students, it is an expectation of all faculty to contribute to the inclusion, engagement, and success of all students.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach in the core curriculum for Health and Exercise Physiology majors including Nutrition (HEP-334).  Other possible courses include  Concepts of Wellness and Fitness (HEP-100),  Public Health (HEP-202), and  Health Ethics (HEP-275). The candidate will also have opportunities to develop new courses within their specialty area that contribute to department and college curriculum. The candidate is expected to contribute to Ursinus’ Common Intellectual Experience first-year seminar and first year advising program. All courses at Ursinus seek to engage students in addressing the four questions of our distinctive QUEST curriculum, and the candidate’s teaching plans should reflect incorporation of QUEST. We will also screen applicants based on their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful applicants will demonstrate outstanding potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and also develop a productive research program that provides opportunities for undergraduate student achievement. Successful applicants will be supported with start-up funds and will be expected to seek external funding to support their research program. Dedicated lab space will be provided along with access to shared facilities.

Requirements and Qualifications

Ph.D. in Nutrition or related degree with teaching experience are required. Post-doctoral experience and/or successful demonstration of research experience through peer-reviewed publications is recommended.  Preference will be given to individuals with a Registered Dietitian (RD) credential.
