Job Summary
The College of Agriculture at Auburn University seeks a team player to join the staff as an Academic Advisor . College of Agriculture advisors provide holistic academic advising and career counseling for all undergraduate students within a department. They assist students with both academic advising in the major(s) and career options.

The individual in this position will serve as an Academic Advisor for undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Advises students in matters related to goals, policies, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, course scheduling, academic action and problem resolution; Interprets University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students, faculty, and staff; Works with others in order to provide students timely information on educational options and University policies; Assists with student orientations; Makes appropriate referrals; Verifies, certifies, and/or completes appropriate student-related forms and processes; Maintains student and advising records in accordance with State/Federal law and University regulations; May clear students for graduation; Maintains student data security; Utilizes appropriate technology to support effective advising; Actively participates in professional development opportunities at the campus level (at minimum); Develops contacts with departments and faculty; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
- Provide academic advising for students in matters related to goals, curriculum, course load and scheduling, registration processes, majors at Auburn, academic success, and university policies.
- Evaluate, update, and securely maintain student and advising records.
- Assist with student orientation/registration each summer (Camp War Eagle) and as needed throughout the year ( SOS ).
- Assist with, and take increasing responsibility over time for, projects related to continual improvement of COA policies and procedures.
- Engage in personal professional development, including cross-training in career-related services.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Advisor I: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution; no experience required.
Advisor II: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 3 years of experience in advising of which 2 years includes full-time primary duties of advising in higher ed.
Advisor III : Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of experience in advising of which 4 years includes full-time primary duties of advising in higher ed.
Substitutions allowed for experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, a related and relevant graduate degree may substitute for two (2) year’s experience.

Master’s degree or progress toward a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline; experience with academic advising in a developmental model; teaching, and/or student services experience at the post-secondary level; demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently as well as with a team; knowledge of advising theory, practices, and procedures; the ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff; strong interpersonal and written communication skills; proficiency with relevant computer skills, such as Microsoft Office Suite and BANNER .
