Position Description

The National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi, School of Pharmacy, seeks candidates for a Principal Scientist position to study the pharmacology of natural products, dietary supplements, and other herbal medicines.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will design and implement preclinical animal models to understand botanical ingredients' quality, efficacy, and safety in various matrices, viz., botanical extracts, supplements, herbal medicines, etc. They will be responsible for conducting appropriate animal models to establish in vivo models for assessing botanical drug- and dietary supplement-mediated pharmacologic responses, including adverse effects such as liver injury, liver toxicity, and histopathology. The candidate should be experienced in botanical research, integrating multidisciplinary research teams in chemistry, pharmacognosy, and toxicology. Prior experience with grantsmanship is plus.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful applicants are expected to have a proven track record of major extramural grant funding, and prior experience in botanicals research with cross-functional teams is plus. Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D., or PharmD, have at least three years of postdoctoral training, and demonstrate an impressive record of productive and high-quality research.
