Executive Vice Dean

University of Missouri School of Medicine

Columbia, Missouri

The University of Missouri School of Medicine welcomes applications and nominations for its inaugural Executive Vice Dean (EVD). The University of Missouri–Columbia (MU or Mizzou) is the flagship, land-grant, AAU, comprehensive research university of the University of Missouri System (UM) with total fund revenues of $1.4 billion. The EVD will be an integral member of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs (EVC)/Dean, School of Medicine’s executive cabinet and will help to deploy the strategic vision of the School of Medicine in its pursuit of the highest quality clinical care, educating top clinicians and scientists, and supporting important discoveries. As the ‘Chair of Chairs’, the EVD will help to manage the oversight of the medical school, provide oversight for faculty affairs, faculty promotion, career development activities, and execute strategic priorities, including recruitment, selection, retention, and financial plan development.

Dedicated to improving the health of all Missourians, MU Health Care is a part of the University of Missouri Health System, which also includes the MU School of Health Professions, the MU School of Medicine, the MU Sinclair School of Nursing and University Physicians practice plan. MU Health is the leading healthcare provider in Mid-Missouri, with operations totaling more than $1 billion. The School of Medicine admits 128 students a year and is known for its patient-based learning curriculum. The School of Medicine trains more than 500 residents and fellows in 37 specialty programs. MU has elevated research expenditures dramatically and has set a record of $432 million in research expenditures in 2022, marking the tenth consecutive year of growth for MU research.  MU Health has been squarely focused on developing the NextGen Precision Health initiative, which is focused on discovery research, safer treatments, faster diagnostics, and transformational outcomes for patients.

The successful candidate will be an institutional thinker, collaborative leader, innovator, and superb communicator with a track record of academic accomplishment and administrative leadership and demonstrated experience in medical education and training. The EVD will affirm and advance Mizzou’s commitment to inclusive excellence. The Executive Vice Dean will have the ability to traverse the fields of academic medicine and education while building collaborative relationships across the School of Medicine and beyond. The EVD will be based in Columbia, Missouri, and have a proven capacity to partner and collaborate with other MU System leaders at both the strategic and operational levels, as well as extensive experience with medical school administration, faculty affairs, and educational programs. It is expected that in addition to their administrative duties, the EVD will maintain a clinical role.

MU has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in the recruitment of the Executive Vice Dean.  Screening of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the search is successful or closed. All inquiries, nominations, and applications should be directed in confidence to the Isaacson, Miller Team, including Jamie Sands, Jay Torio, Katie White, Lily Sethares and/or Kory Kinman via:

The University of Missouri System values the uniqueness of every individual and strives to ensure each person’s success. Contributions from individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives promote intellectual pluralism and enable us to achieve excellence in learning, research, and engagement. This commitment makes Mizzou a better place to work, learn, and innovate.

Application materials should address experiences and expertise that support these values and enrich the University of Missouri School of Medicine’s mission of teaching, research, and engagement.
