Responsibilities
Provide quality medical care to patients at the Student Health Center (SHC). Provides assessments, diagnoses, testing, treatment and referrals according to their applicable CA scope of practice (NPs and PAs). Uses expertise to practice autonomously, utilizing the collaborating physician as needed per California law (NPs and PAs) or the Medical Director as a resource. Directs and communicates plan of care with nursing staff and/or medical assistant to provide needed medications, treatment and education for patients.

1. Patient Care.
Obtain problem oriented history, perform appropriate physical examinations, formulate a diagnosis and execute an appropriate treatment plan for patients at the SHC including a wide range of health conditions under an urgent care model.

Lead emergency codes, directing SHC staff (registered nurse, medical assistant, etc.) to appropriately administer CPR, medications, oxygen, etc.

Order, perform and interpret diagnostic testing and lab work

Prescribe medications and other treatments, as well as provide patient education, as indicated per diagnosis

Maintain effective and professional communication and collaboration with SHC staff as it pertains to patient care

Utilize collaborating physician as indicated for consultation and case review (NPs and PAs only)

Maintain detailed, legible and confidential medical records in accordance with established protocols and participate in the review of such records with the collaborating physician

Provide follow-up care with patients, including telephone check-in and in-person medical care as indicated

2. Education
Provide ongoing education and teaching to SHC staff to ensure that evidence-based and consistent medical care is being performed at the SHC through weekly staff meetings, staff training days and day-to-day in the clinic

Develop and review nursing protocols

3. Maintain continued medical education required to uphold valid California license(s).

Experience and Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: REQUIRED: MSN, MSPAS, MD or DO ????

Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): 3 years in clinical practice; preferably in a college health, urgent care, or clinic setting.

Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical) EMR proficient, strong communication and interpersonal skills

Licenses & Certifications (e.g. CPA, RN, etc.):

REQUIRED: BLS certification and either 1) CA Nurse Practitioner License, California Furnishing License, 2) CA Physician Assistant License, 3) CA Medical Physician license, 4) CA Osteopathic Physician license

PREFERRED: DEA license
