Dr. Timothy Linksvayer, from the School of Life Sciences (SOLS) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for an Assistant Research Scientist to complete ongoing comparative genomic and quantitative genomic studies of social complexity in ants. The Assistant Research Scientist will independently analyze, and write-up for publication comparative genomic and transcriptomic analyses that are part of ongoing projects in the Linksvayer lab.

This is a full-time fiscal year (12 months), benefits-eligible appointment for one year. The anticipated start date is Fall, 2023.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A PhD in Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Genetics, or related areas at time of the appointment Demonstrated experience in conducting and publishing research in high throughput transcriptomic and comparative genomic analyses Demonstrated experience in DNA and RNA extraction and basic wet lab skills Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to  advance the principles of the ASU Charter

Desired qualifications:

  • Interest in studying the evolution traits related to social complexity in social insects Demonstrated capacity for independence and innovation, as well as the ability to work as part of a team Experience with using the software package HyPhy including the use of RELAX, BUSTED, and aBSREL Experience with using the software package RERconverge Experience with GWAS software, e.g., GEMMA Experience in preparing RNA and DNA sequencing libraries
