The Associated Colleges of the Midwest
President

The Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) seeks applications and nominations for the next President of the association.

The Associated Colleges of the Midwest is an association of fourteen colleges united in academic partnership, which use the ACM to conduct joint initiatives that would not be possible independently. Professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, student leadership programs, securing external grants for collaborative projects, and networking events are just some of the opportunities available to individuals from member institutions. The member colleges launched the ACM in 1958, building on a long-established tradition of athletic competition dating back to the 1920s.

The 10 founding members of the ACM (Beloit, Lawrence, and Ripon in Wisconsin; Coe, Cornell, and Grinnell in Iowa; Carleton and St. Olaf in Minnesota; Knox and Monmouth in Illinois) are still actively engaged with the consortium and were strengthened by new members Macalester and Colorado Colleges in 1967, Lake Forest College in 1974, the College of the University of Chicago from 1988 through 2008, and Luther College in 2009. The ACM member colleges have shown remarkable stability and vitality over 60 years of profound change in American higher education. Collectively focused on residential liberal arts education as the best preparation for life in a rapidly changing world, each of the ACM colleges offers its own unique traditions, academic specializations, diverse student profiles, and local resources.

Working closely with an energetic, strategic, and forward-looking Board of Directors, the President will have the opportunity to establish a strategic vision for ACM's future direction. Consulting widely with the 14 member colleges, the President will develop bold and innovative collaborative programs that strengthen the colleges individually and collectively.

The President oversees all partnerships and collaborative programs and activities among the 14 member colleges, including professional development opportunities, off-campus study programs, grant-funded programs, artistic competitions, faculty and staff projects, and athletic tournaments. In addition, the President oversees an endowment of approximately $14 million, an operating budget of approximately $1.6 million, and a staff of 6 consortial staff members.

The next President will have significant leadership experience in higher education, a clear understanding of the higher education landscape, and a deep appreciation for the transformative education provided by the 14 liberal arts colleges in the ACM. The ideal candidate will possess proven ability to develop a strategic vision and to collaborate with ACM college leaders in its implementation. Candidates will be expected to have an earned advanced degree.

More information, including an institutional profile, is available at this link.

How to Apply: Applications should consist of a substantial letter of interest, a resume, and a list of five professional references with full contact information. No references will be contacted without the explicit permission of the candidate. Applications, nominations, and expressions of interest can be submitted electronically, and in confidence, to:
