Summary/Objective
The Director of Undergraduate Advising is responsible for the overall service delivery of undergraduate academic advising to students enrolled in the Kogod School of Business. This position leads the advising team through goal setting and strategic planning, ensures quality advising by all members of the advising team, and upholds school and university regulations. The Director sets the strategic direction for the undergraduate advising office, leads advising initiatives within Kogod, and oversees the creation of advising programming that complements the learning outcomes of the undergraduate program. The Director serves as the primary liaison to campus partners that impact advising from matriculation through graduation. The incumbent advises a small number of students, primarily as a back-up for other advisors. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Student Services in Kogod and supervises two Assistant Directors, two Academic Advisors, anda Senior Administrative Assistant. . The incumbent organizes the Undergraduate Advising Office, oversees the hiring and training of academic advisors, organizes staff meetings, facilitates professional development opportunities for the advising team, and liaises with offices that impact the undergraduate advising experience while upholding the academic regulations.
Under the direction of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Student Services, the Director of Undergraduate Programs supports the programing, communication, student requirements, and outreach for the Kogod Honors Program as well as recruitment and admissions process
The Director is the liaison to the Office of the University Registrar, AU Central, International Accelerator Programs, First-Year Advising, International Student and Scholar Services, AU Abroad and the Dean of Student’s Office.
Essential Functions
- Strategic Leadership:
- Responsible for leading an exceptional Kogod Advising Team that provides academic support services to undergraduate students enrolled in the Kogod School of Busines.
- Provides strategic leadership to implement advising best practices and to maintain team cohesion.
- Leads team goal-setting and strategic planning cycles, including the ongoing assessment of the undergraduate advising office to ensure student needs are being met.
- Hiring, Supervision, and Coaching:
- Supervises five professionals including two Assistant Directors, two Academic Advisors, and a Senior Administrative Assistant.
- Identifies staffing needs, addresses personnel questions/concerns, supports and promotes professional development, identifies and manages resource needs, and leads the Performance Management Process.
- Cross-Campus Collaboration:
- Maintains strong relationships with campus partners who work with the advising office on the admission, registration, advising and retention of students.
- Coordinates with various university departments to provide support to student-athletes, international students, students of color, students on academic probation, students with learning disabilities, honors students, and other student populations.
- Other duties as assigned:
- Works closely with the Dean’s office to act in the absence of key Kogod team members.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position reports directly to the Kogod’s Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Services. This position manages two Assistant Directors, two Academic Advisors, anda Senior Administrative Assistant. This position serves as the primary point of contact and thought-leader for the development and management of student academic programming in Kogod.
Work Environment
This position reports directly to the KSB’s Interim Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Services. This position manages four academic advisors and Undergraduate Programs’ Operations and Data Coordinator. This position serves as the primary point of contact and thought-leader for the development and management of student academic programming in KSB.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

- Exempt.
- Relevant Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience years in academic advising and student services.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic and high pressure environment.
- Strong understanding of academic issues, regulations, and procedures.
- Proven experience working with diverse populations of undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and develop productive working relationships with multiple constituencies (students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents).
- Proven ability to use current technology and information systems to analyze data, manage projects, and facilitate decision-making.
