Suffolk University seeks a Director for the Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence. Suffolk University is a private, urban university located in the heart of downtown Boston. The Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence (CTSE) provides leadership for the professional development of members of the Suffolk community as teacher-scholars, administrators, mentors, and leaders. Reporting to the Associate Provost, Academic Planning and Accreditation, the Director will provide vision and guidance to advance an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all. The University is committed to the central role of the CTSE in the institution.
The CTSE Director has a leadership role within the University and acts as a positive presence in the community of teaching and learning professionals and scholars. Within the University, the Director will work with and lead the CTSE Team of educational developers and academic technologists to support faculty in all phases of their roles as teacher-scholars and collaborate with a range of university partners such as deans, department chairs, student support units, and others to foster a culture that embraces and rewards effective teaching, research, and scholarship throughout the Suffolk Community. In addition to supporting academic and scholarly development, the CTSE is home to the instructional technology team, responsible for the training and use of the instructional software systems.
Externally, the Director engages with the broader learning community and fosters relationships beyond Suffolk University to ensure the Institutions continued place in local, regional, and national discussions regarding the advancement of learning and effective teaching in the changing higher educational landscape.
The successful candidate will have experience sustaining a vibrant teaching and learning center that responds to faculty needs while supporting the institutional mission to provide experiential and transformational learning opportunities. They should have a rich understanding of the current challenges facing higher education generally and the area of teaching and learning specifically, including those related to culturally relevant/responsive pedagogy and assessment of first-generation college students.
