Job Duties:
The Director of the LaunchBox serves as a primary liaison between the University and aspiring entrepreneurs, students, investors, small businesses, idea makers and government entities for the purpose of creating new jobs, increasing investment, and innovative business solutions in the Athens State University service area. The director is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the LaunchBox.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensures the success of the University's commitment to supporting economic development through entrepreneurship and small business development.
  • Develops appropriate business model for the LaunchBox, including a business plan and P&L projections after a comprehensive review of other organizations' operations and analysis of local need/demand. Potential areas may include incubation, co-working space, event hosting, etc.
  • Works with community stakeholders including entrepreneurs, business owners, elected officials, funding entities, and employers to stimulate economic development.
  • Manages the daily operations of the LaunchBox.
  • Promotes collaborative relationships with Athens State University faculty and staff, as well as with external clientele and local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Develops and manages an annual offline and online marketing plan to promote the LaunchBox.
  • Develops, promotes, and assesses outreach programs related to the LaunchBox for the purposes of developing community support, deepening stakeholder engagement, and increasing participation by those who utilize LaunchBox
  • Manages and mentors LaunchBox staff members.
  • Manages the LaunchBox budget and fiscal resources while continuously seeking to diversify and expand funding sources.
  • Promotes a safe, educational, and professional work environment.
  • Assures compliance with all Athens State University policies and procedures.
  • Assures compliance with local, state, and federal policies and practices, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation.
  • Proactively engages in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned, flexibly responding to demonstrated market demand for LaunchBox services


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Organizational Effectiveness, Training and Development, or similar field from a regionally accredited college or university is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in fields related to academia, workforce development, business management, marketing, industrial training, or employee development are desirable.
  • Experience in teaching, leadership, and customer-service settings is preferred.
  • Experience in managing collaborative work space preferred.

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Presently, over 3,100 students have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty.
