Scope of Job:
To assist in the operation of a program and/or multiple projects
focusing on assisting and training beginning farmers and ranchers,
exercising independent judgment and authority as required.

• Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars related to the
program’s mission and goals.

As a condition of employment this position requires the applicant
to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official
University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157,
applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for
their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State
Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their
prior State of residence(s).
• Three (3) years of experience in farming, agriculture, and
agricultural extension with knowledge of the farm,
agricultural-related equipment, and its care maintenance including
program planning/coordination or related experience, or
• One (1) year of the required experience with a Master’s degree,
Five (5) years of the required experience with an Associate degree
or 60 hours of College Credit, or Seven (7) years of the required
experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Use of standard office equipment. Must be able to demonstrate the
use of farm and agricultural-related equipment, such as tractors,
mowers, trimmers, etc. Knowledge of general trades tools, such as
screwdrivers, hoes and shovels, wrenches, and pliers.
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties,
including occasional lifting and physical activities related to
farming and ranching. Normal office, classroom, or outside
environment. Some travel, and weekend and evening work are
required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires
presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Program may require the ability to drive a car for local or distant
travel for consultation, training, meetings, or on-site
Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff,
students, and the public. Excellent verbal and written
communication skills. Computer skills, familiarity with MS software
and videoconferencing software preferred. Demonstrated
interpersonal skills. Independent decision making and

May require the ability to lift and manipulate tools and bags
