New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Director, Career Development to join the new Stern at NYUAD team. NYU Stern School of Business and NYUAD have partnered to offer the Stern at NYUAD One-year Full-time MBA program. The launch of the program signifies a new era of advanced business education that will support the growth of knowledge-based economies in the region. It is a transformative educational opportunity for students and professionals from around the world that are looking to establish or further their careers in the MENA region.
The Director will be responsible for establishing an inaugural Office of Career Development (OCD) for the Stern@NYUAD full-time MBA program, lead and direct career services, corporate relations, operations, and activities serving students in the newly launched one-year MBA program. They will also be required to manage staff and budgets and represent the Stern@NYUAD program at local and regional career services functions at other universities and companies, and will serve as a member of the Dean's senior management team in the development of strategic planning initiatives and idea generation.
The Director will provide strategic direction and management of the Office of Career Development serving career advising, exploration and education, direct an array of innovative programs and services to serve the program’s diverse full-time MBA student population’s unique career interests and connect them with opportunities to help them move forward with their next steps, and will also liaise with NYU Stern Office of Career Development in New York City.
The Director and their staff will advise and mentor students, engage faculty and staff in collaborative and supportive efforts related to career development for students, and create and implement programs, services and online resources to facilitate and enhance student/alumni career development on and off campus and, through effective use of the internet and inter-university collaborations around the world. The Director stays current on regional and international trends, and ensures that regional and international opportunities are promoted, educating students, faculty and staff on industry and market trends as necessary.
The Director consults with academic deans and faculty colleagues to demonstrate skill development that takes place in the classroom. They also consult and work closely with colleagues in a variety of campus offices including the NYU Stern Office of Career Development, NYUAD Career Development Center, DARO, Government and Industry Relations, Community Outreach, NYUAD Graduate Program Office, Student Services, etc. to coordinate outreach efforts and to enhance skills development opportunities in student leadership and employment activities.
The Director will oversee a suite of programs, events, and communications related to guiding students through their transition to post-university life. They will oversee the career planning, coordination, delivery, and assessment of initiatives for graduating students. They will oversee corporate relations to ensure that Stern@NYUAD is acquiring the number and types of corporate partners it needs for employment opportunities and internship projects. They will partner with Alumni Relations, University Events, and other key stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition experience for graduating students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build productive business relationships for the Stern@NYUAD MBA program and establish credibility as a subject matter expert in recruitment and career development with a broad range of key influential contacts, constituencies, and staff
- Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies, policies, and programs to increase job opportunities and internship projects for students and graduates
- Identify, recommend, and implement systems to measure, evaluate and communicate the office's progress to deans, students, alumni and the various reporting/ranking services
- Develop and maintain relationships with corporate, faculty, administration and student working groups, committees, and/or advisory boards to keep abreast of new strategies needed to better deliver career services and internship projects
- Lead the establishment of an inaugural OCD. This includes creating a professional OCD space that is aligned with top MBA programs, developing the OCD’s short- and long-term goals, overseeing day-to-day operations, staff recruitment and on-boarding, and assessing programs and services in terms of metrics including costs and benefits, student and external engagement, cost effectiveness, etc
- Lead and direct career activities to serve entering and continuing full-time Stern@NYUAD MBA students. This includes overseeing advising services and the development and implementation of various career education-related events and activities (campus-based, industry-based, fairs, seminars, presentations, workshops, alumni networking events, etc.) to serve full-time MBA students
- Evaluate effectiveness of current policies and, recommend new initiatives to improve delivery of services, including coaching and recruitment programs and services provided to Stern@NYUAD's full-time MBAs
- Survey, analyze and report on students' interests and needs to design and implement effective delivery of short- and long-term career services
- Lead collaboration efforts with key internal partners (e.g., Student Services, Admissions, Development and Alumni Relations) to foster synergies across departments aimed at creating expanded opportunities that maximize school-wide resources and ensure communication and resource/idea exchange
- Develop goals and initiatives for department and lead the team in their execution. Analyze data, trends, and feedback and establish plans and models for current and future decision- making
- Devise and implement plans to cultivate industry leaders to hire Stern@NYUAD MBA students and alumni
- Determine how human, financial, and technical resources will be deployed both in terms of long-term planning and ad hoc needs as required
- Develop goals, plans and related multiple-year projects (e.g., upgrading OCD career management system), including directing the human resources and fiscal operations of the teamDirect marketing plans and conceptualization of publication materials in tandem with NYUAD External Relations and NYU Stern Public Affairs
- Determine, publicize, and implement program enhancements that attract students to utilize the department’s services
- Benchmark trends in education and job market; continually evaluate how Stern is doing vis-a-vis our competitors and students' interests and expectations through regular meetings with students and surveying students, graduates, corporate contacts, faculty, etc.
- Represent Stern@NYUAD’s career services team to actively promote Stern@NYUAD MBA students and success of Stern's graduate employment program
- Establish professional networks and share information through professional associations and business school affiliations (both regionally and internationally)
- Determine appropriate actions to be taken and precedents and expectations to be set related to services, outreach and complex problems involving students
- Decide how to build fluidity into current policies and related communications to proactively address such cycles
Required Education:
- Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, or closely related field (Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred)
- 10+ years of leadership experience
- Progressively responsible experience with human resources recruiting, career coaching, admissions, marketing, and operations or related field and experience developing and implementing student services, managing staff and budget, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience developing and directing various career and recruitment related activities, services, and outreach strategies
- Experience developing and administering programs, seminars and events, and experience producing training and educational materials related to career development required
- Experience successfully serving and mentoring a diverse population required
- Excellent presentation, networking and verbal and written communication skills in English
- High level of proficiency with standard computer software, and capacity to learn new programs
- Strong service-oriented demeanor, exercising discretion where needed
- Website content management, publication design, database maintenance, and/or presentation software expertise strongly preferred
- Ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-changing environment, demonstrating initiative and dependability
- Self-starter with a capacity to work both independently and with a team
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Management experience in a university career center
- Experience working with diverse, multicultural constituencies
- Experience working in international contexts
- Ability to work as a leader in developing graduate career programs and internship projects in collaboration with professional colleagues.
- Understanding of career development issues affecting graduate students, and the ability to identify and analyze employment trends impacting them
- Knowledge of local, national, and international job markets
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills in order to speak effectively and credibly to a wide range of audiences
- Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data in Stern@NYUAD systems, and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal/institutional standards
- Familiarity with career assessment instruments
