We are seeking anAssistant Director -
Grantswho will support the Associate Vice Provost and
Associate Directors in the training, direction, and management of a
team of grants and/or contracts associates and will have signature
authority for certain documents. The Assistant Director will
independently review, negotiate, and sign applications and awards
for assigned departments and foundation awards and ensure adherence
to university policies. Provide advice and counsel to faculty and
staff. Negotiate favorable grant and contract terms and conditions
with domestic and foreign sponsors. Draft replacement language
where needed. Submit proposals and assist with problems. Serve as
liaison to funding agencies for problem resolution, and other
post-award matters. Understand Responsible Conduct of Research and
identify and address non-compliance issues. Serve on University or
School committees and participate in long-range special projects.
Reduce new and revised regulatory language to practice through
writing policies and procedures and boilerplate language.The
Assistant Director may supervise three to five staff
members.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Management and oversight of continuous quality improvements in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards for JHURA, including data collection, quality analysis, performance metrics tracking, and development and dissemination of quality control measures and standard operating procedures.
- Help ensure that effective ongoing training programs are in place for all key positions and processes supporting research administration across the University.
- Communicate with faculty and staff to provide instruction, assistance, and advice on grant application preparation and administration and to request corrections and resolve discrepancies.
- Negotiate favorable grant and contract terms and conditions with domestic and foreign sponsors. Draft replacement language where needed. Serve as liaison to funding agencies for problem resolution, and other post-award matters. Know and understand sponsor and University policies.
- Remain informed and up-to-date concerning events, regulations, and changes that affect sponsored projects. Interpret guidelines and apply them to specific applications, awards, and issues.
- Assist faculty and staff with access and use of grant-related electronic submission sites and databases such as COEUS, Grants.gov, E-commons.
- Conduct specialized training courses for departments as needed.
- Assist the Associate Director of Grants and
Workflow in the training, direction, and management of the Grants
and Workflow Team including assisting with daily questions,
workload assignments, and training, consistently communicating with
departments and other central offices to elevate customer service
and working with other Assistant Directors to improve processes and
overall office performance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Five years of experience in research administration with some specialized experience in grant administration.
- Contracts and grants administration, working knowledge of the Uniform Guidance and the Federal Acquisition Regulations, and understanding of compliance issues related to sponsored research.
- Requires a detail-oriented person who is well-organized and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously while operating under deadlines.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to handle ambiguity and exercise judgment.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Work experience should demonstrate the ability to conceptualize how to find solutions reach consensus and complete complex tasks efficiently.
- Ability to operate a computer and familiar with Microsoft Office, online web-based systems, printers, scanners, and copiers.
- Additional related experience may substitute
for the required education. Additional education may substitute for
required experience and additional related experience may
substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the
JHU equivalency formula.
- JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate
degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may
substitute for one year of experience. Additional related
experience may substitute for the required education on the same
basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of
non-related college coursework may be applied towards the total
minimum education/experience required for the respective
job.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in related discipline required. Experience with SAP, Coeus, Power BI, and Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
