Description: The Art & Art History Department at Saint Mary's College of California seeks a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Art Practice, with an emphasis on digital art and animation, to begin the 2024-25 academic year. Candidates should be able to teach lower and upper-division courses in photography, photomontage, video, experimental digital filmmaking, sound, animation, and digital drawing. Successful candidates may also be asked to teach non-digital courses such as interdisciplinary art and introductory studio or digital art history courses.

We are specifically seeking:

• Candidates who have demonstrable experience using digital media and/or animation in their art practice and a national and international exhibition record ;
• 
  Candidates who are able to teach digital drawing and animation, digital art; experimental media, film, and photography;
  
• 
  Candidates whose studio teaching practice includes both history and theory;
  
• 
  Candidates able to teach the history of digital art and/or animation.
  

Faculty Responsibilities:

• 
  Teach courses at the undergraduate level within the discipline program and other areas covered by the core curriculum.
  
• 
  Act as an advisor, giving mentorship and guidance to students.
  
• 
  Serve as a member of BA graduate committees, contributing to candidates' academic and artistic development.
  
• 
  Assume the role of Department Chair (post-tenure) for the department on a rotating basis, taking responsibility for program coordination and development.
  
• 
  Engage in curriculum and program enhancement efforts to ensure that program content remains relevant and up-to-date.
  
• 
  Actively participate in student outreach initiatives, involving activities such as prospective student recruitment, student involvement programs, and conducting portfolio reviews.
  
• 
  Assist in the recruitment, evaluation, and supervision of part-time faculty, technical staff, and student assistants.
  
• 
  Engage in ongoing research, scholarly pursuits, and creative endeavors, leading to presentations, and publications.
  
• 
  Foster connections and collaborations with professionals in the field, serving as a program liaison.
  
• 
  Contribute to the School of Liberal Arts, the College, the Art & Art History department, and the campus community through service-oriented activities.

Qualifications:

• M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Art, Photography, Film/Video, Film and Media Production, Animation, Digital Media Production, Digital Design or closely related discipline. 5 years of Undergraduate teaching experience.
• 
  Experience successfully teaching a range of digital art media through project-based learning.
  
• 
  Ability to write and teach new courses.
  

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• 
  Candidates who have experience and willingness to teach non-digital media courses;
  
• 
  Candidates whose background, experience, and interests produce an interdisciplinary approach to teaching;
  
• 
  Candidates who have a strong interest in and the ability to help grow a burgeoning digital art program. Prior experience in program support and development is highly preferred.
