The successful applicant will be appointed as a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in the University of Washington Electrical and Computer Engineering department for three years, with the possibility of renewal. The position begins in Fall 2023 and is a 9-month appointment with an opportunity to teach in the summer quarters.

About the Professional Master’s Program

The Professional Master’s Program (PMP) is one of two master’s programs offered in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This fee-based degree was originally designed for working professionals, but has since evolved to accommodate full-time students who comprise about 50% of our student population. The program features an exciting industry-responsive curriculum and is intended for students who plan to launch or continue their careers in industry.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, candidates who have teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, including course development and instruction.  Applicants should possess demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information and lead high quality undergraduate and graduate courses.

We are especially interested in candidates with a background in circuits and VLSI, power electronics, embedded and mobile systems, or robotics. However, highest priority will be given to exceptional candidates regardless of the specific areas listed above.

About the Undergraduate Program

UW ECE is ranked #16 nationally in electrical engineering, and #4 in total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in electrical and computer engineering. Over 700 undergraduates receive a robust education through a strong technical foundation, group project work, and hands-on research opportunities with renowned faculty in one of 40 department labs.  A new ECE curriculum has been rolled out as of September 2022 to provide additional flexibility and new elective courses, focusing on systems principles, problem solving, and engineering design with a societal impact.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Teaching Professor will teach two courses a quarter in the UW ECE PMP and/or BSECE program. Successful candidates are also expected to participate in program and departmental activities, train teaching assistants, serve on admissions and other departmental committees, and mentor students.

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for this position will be $11,000 to $13,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
