Marian University invites applicants for the position of Department Chair of Business and Associate Professor starting January, 2024. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, student engagement and student research, as well as service to the college and community. Marian University is an institution that values innovative teaching, advising and mentoring. All faculty participate in advising and mentoring, with other related duties as assigned.
This position includes teaching responsibilities, as well as contributing to our graduate, adult accelerated and online programs, as demand requires. Candidates should exhibit skill and enthusiasm in teaching undergraduates and developing innovative experiential learning opportunities in the surrounding community and be willing to participate in all phases of program, departmental, and university activities. Normal credit load is twelve (12) credits per semester (fall & spring semesters), however release time is available for the position of Department Chair. Success metrics will include measures pertaining to improved academic outcomes, student success, faculty retention, efficient delivery of courses, and enrollment growth within the Business Programs.
This position will also oversee the Center for Organizational Success (COS), which includes partnering primarily with the Business, Educational, and Healthcare, and other employment communities to offer training and ongoing professional development. Examples of partnerships will include offering short courses, micro-credential courses, and certificates. Success metrics will include growth (defined by participants and revenue in COS initiatives).
Marian University is primarily a teaching institution, and while scholarship is expected, it is not the focus of the person in this role. This is not a research focused position.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Administer university, school and department policies for professional duties. Participate and guide planning at the university, department and program level. Provide leadership in strategic planning, program design, teaching excellence, student success, professional activity, research, extramural funding, collegial faculty and staff working relations, university outreach, and university and community service. Participate in university and school level committees to further the success of the institution. Monitor program curricula to assure excellence in the student educational experience. Adhere to the principles of shared governance by leading meetings of department faculty and/or staff; and lead meetings of advisory boards or groups as assigned. With faculty input, manage department budget; oversee expenditures; and adopt and maintain sound fiscal policies and procedures. Manage a variety of personnel issues for faculty and staff and serve as point of contact for issues arising within the department concerning faculty, staff, or student grievances or complaints. Direct the timely planning and submission of course schedules in compliance with university policy. Manage the department or programs assessment processes and maintain the academic standards of accrediting associations. Support and help actively guide initiatives outside of academic program delivery that advance the mission, values, and strategy of the institution. Teach courses throughout the curriculum in the graduate and undergraduate Business Program in online, hybrid and on-campus in-person modes. Develop corporate and community partnerships to offer training, conferences, seminars, and other development opportunities through our Center for Organizational Success. Assist post-graduate relationship, networks, and establishment of external industry relations to promote programs to industry employers, secure ongoing placement channels and initiate industry collaborations.
- Strictly honor the privacy, security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to state, federal, and college regulations, policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), PhD in Business, or relative field of study. Two years’ experience leading and teaching in a Business program. Practical experience in private industry business leadership. Experience leading professional development and training courses.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Five years’ experience leading a Business program.
