The college

CMC is a comprehensive, public, open-access dual-mission institution offering 136 academic programs ranging from bachelor’s and associate degrees, specialized certificates, and a wide range of online, non-credit and lifelong learning courses, as well as extensive concurrent enrollment opportunities in close partnership with neighboring school districts.

Over 15,000 students attend CMC annually, and 40% of degree-seeking students earn a certificate or degree every year. The college’s Latinx enrollment has doubled in six years to 29%, making CMC a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). CMC courses are highly personal and many are experiential by design, each with a maximum registration of 25 students.

Colorado Mountain College campuses are located in Aspen, Carbondale, Breckenridge, Dillon, Steamboat Springs, downtown Glenwood Springs, Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley, Leadville, Rifle, the Vail Valley, and Salida. Of these locations, three are “traditional” residential—Spring Valley, Leadville, and Steamboat Springs; students in Breckenridge (and coming soon – in Edwards, Spring Valley and Steamboat Spring) have access to college-owned apartment-style housing. CMC campuses are close-knit communities, on average serving between 1,000 – 2,000 students.

The majority of the college’s financial support comes from local property taxes, not tuition or state revenues. Consequently, CMC is uniquely positioned to be entrepreneurial, nimble, mission-focused, and responsive to community and workforce needs. The college’s Central Services office, which provides administrative support to all campus locations, is located in historic downtown Glenwood Springs, the town from which CMC originally launched in 1965.

The position

Under the supervision of the Dean of Academic Support, this position provides college-wide leadership of library services with strong alignment to Colorado Mountain College’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities. The Associate Dean of Library Services leads the college’s overall vision and strategy of library services for the college's 11 campuses, both virtually and with the college’s three physical libraries. The position, with a focus on teaching and learning, supports enrichment of the CMC student experience and student success. The position manages day-to-day library operations for CMC, oversees library resources, collections, and services, as well as promotes community building and public engagement.

The Associate Dean leads library plans and information literacy services. The position manages and facilitates library services and resources in a manner that is equitable for all campuses, students, faculty, and staff within the mission of the college. This position coordinates with library staff across the college to ensure consistency of baseline services and operations, while encouraging each library to plan, develop, and maintain services for its distinct population. In coordination with campus leadership, the Associate Dean supervises, advocates for, and evaluates library staff and collaborates with staff and faculty on resource needs. The position oversees library budgets and serves as the college copyright officer.

The Associate Dean, together with the library staff for the college, provides instruction, reference, and outreach to advance the common learning competencies as well as program and course outcomes. This position engages students in-person and remotely to meet student needs and preferences. The Associate Dean actively participates in serving student needs with print and large electronic collection and research help and oversees library services consisting of chat, appointments, phone, and email help. The position provides physical and electronic resources to support the curriculum and lifelong learning of students.

The Associate Dean advocates for the interest of the institution and serves as a liaison for all communication related to library services. Where feasible and prudent, the Associate Dean collaborates with local community and public librarians.

This position is a non-teaching supervisory position for college-wide integration of access and success with library services and programs, established to provide high quality academic opportunities. Evening hours required on a weekly basis; may be required to participate in programs, committees, training, conferences, or other work-related activities outside of routine work hours. The position will involve occasional travel to other campuses as needed.

Hiring range: $102,911.73 - $114,346.37 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a Master of Library Science (MLS), Master of Arts, Master of Librarianship, Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS), or Master of Science degree. Experience with electronic library collections, academic library and resources, and instruction from an accredited institution or higher and a minimum three years of professional experience in a library setting or related experience, or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.

Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: Knowledge of virtual and physical library principles, practices, and methodologies; management of public services, electronic services, electronic resources and software platform integration; and inter-library loan and library reference practices.

Ability to: work collaboratively with colleagues in and out of the libraries, organize and prioritize work; meet deadlines; handle multiple projects simultaneously; exceptional verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated success with goal setting and strategic planning for units. Experience with best practices in the acquisition, processing, and long-term management of manuscript, archival, and unique materials in analog and digital formats. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and build campus and community partnerships. Familiarity with collection management strategies and tools, and local and national standards specific to archival control.
