Summary

The Thangarajh laboratory is looking for a highly-motivated, qualified research
technician with prior laboratory experience who will contribute scientifically to our
projects on understanding the role of dystrophin in brain development. The qualified
candidate will manage a mouse colony and conduct wet-lab experiments (cell cultures,
western blot, immunohistochemistry). The ideal candidate is an exceptionally
motivated individual, who is capable of working independently, is reliable, organized,
detail-oriented, and excited about scientific research. Candidates with prior
neuroscience experience are preferred.

It is essential that the applicant is able to work independently to formulate and design experiments,
with excellent collaborative team skills. Experience of working with cultured astrocytes and neurons,
as well as working with animal models for neurodegenerative diseases is qualifying.
Immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, microscopy techniques, western blot, and animal
handling experience are of advantage.

Typical Duties

Mouse colony maintenance, primary neuronal and glial cell isolation and culture, PCR, qPCR, protein extraction and analysis, microscopy, data entry and analysis, and general laboratory maintenance and organization.

Typical Education and Experience

Applicants should have a B.A./B.S., or M.A/M.S. in biology, cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, biotechnology, or a related field.

A minimum of one-year prior experience in wet-lab is required.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

This is a restricted position with no set end date; continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
