Job Description

The MU Extension Field Crop Pathology Team seeks a research specialist to support research and extension efforts.

In this position, you will primarily be responsible for:
  • Assisting with field preparations, planting, and maintenance of greenhouse and small plot research trials in corn, soybean, and wheat.
  • Operating and maintaining vehicles and agriculture machinery and equipment for small plot research trials.
  • Applying pesticides for maintenance of small plots and for research experiments.
  • Assisting with data collection from field and greenhouse research trials.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
You will need to be detail oriented to succeed in this position and have the ability to work independently as well as with a team of staff and students. Sometimes in-state travel with provided transportation is required during the growing season to conduct research at MU Ag Experiment Stations across Missouri.

Previous work in plant pathology is desirable but not essential. We can provide on-job training for crop diseases and data collection. There can be opportunity for responsibilities to grow over time and include more extension or research responsibilities, dependent upon your interest and strengths. Salary Range: $16.23 - $28.25 per hour

Shift: M-F 8 AM to 5 PM

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in plant sciences, general agriculture, or a closely related degree. Candidates with an advanced degree (M.S.) and/or field research experience and the ability to work well in a team environment are preferred.
