Director of University Communications and Marketing



Responsibilities

Under the primary direction of the Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement and in consultation with the President, the Director of University Communications and Marketing plans, implements and assesses a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy for the University. Provides leadership and management of strategic communications and integrated marketing services to the University's academic, administrative, operational, and Athletics units to advance the University's reputation, build the University's brand, and enhance the University's image through media relations, public relations, brand management, marketing communications, web/digital communications, sports information, social media, and licensing and creative services, which all seek to promote and support the University's vision, mission, goals and core values. Designs and manages the flow of communication to targeted audiences, both internal and external. Cultivates and nurtures relationships with the media. Develops and manages implementation and evaluation of marketing campaigns. Manages professional personnel in the Department of University Communications and Marketing. Oversees department relationships with external agencies, consultants, and vendors. Develops and administers departmental budget. Manages special projects and performs other duties as required to meet organizational needs. In addition to reporting to the Senior VP for Institutional Advancement this position will also have a dotted line to the President.

Qualifications

Requires at least a master’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or in a related field supplemented by at least five years of progressively responsible experience in public relations/communications/marketing, preferably in a higher education. Experience as a journalist, copy editor or producer in print or broadcast media is preferred. Experience with brand management, project management, editing/proofreading, and knowledge of AP style. Intermediate to proficient use of Microsoft Office, knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or individual Adobe software programs is a plus. Must be accustomed to working in a fast-paced, deadline driven office. The equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends and during other times, as needed.
