Samford University’s School of the Arts invites applicants interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for a tenure-track professor of art position. The tenure-track position is a nine-month appointment that will begin in August 2024 at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. 

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching studio art foundations courses within the Department of Art and Design, including beginning and intermediate drawing and 2D Design. They will also serve as the department foundations coordinator, overseeing and guiding the department’s foundation curriculum. Additionally, faculty are expected to maintain ongoing professional development and scholarship activity and provide service to the university, school, and department. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong interest in teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate level and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the university.

Required qualifications include outstanding academic credentials, including an M.F.A. in an area of Studio Art or a related field, an active exhibition record or evidence of scholarly activity, and a commitment to teaching, scholarship and service. 

Preference will be given to applicants with university-level teaching experience in observational drawing and 2D Design and the ability to work collaboratively with other faculty to maintain the studios and develop a consistent foundation’s curriculum.

In addition, please submit the following supplemental materials: (a) a teaching statement outlining philosophies of pedagogy, (b) an artist statement, (c) a link or digital portfolio including 15 images of recent work, (d) a link or digital portfolio featuring 15 images of student work, and (e) contact information for three professional references. Images should include descriptions of media, scale, and year created. Finalists may be required to submit additional materials at a later time.

Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, as Samford will not sponsor any employment visas for this position.
