Job Description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri is seeking outstanding applicants for a non-tenure-track (NTT) teaching faculty position at the assistant/associate professor rank. NTT teaching faculty members contribute to the core activity of teaching and are fully engaged in the department’s curriculum development and delivery. The successful candidate will provide high-quality teaching at the undergraduate level across a range of fundamental mechanical and aerospace engineering courses. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching strength and interest in machine design, kinematics/machine dynamics, or structures.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field. Successful prior teaching experience is an important consideration. Industrial experience is very desirable but not required. Typical workload for NTT teaching faculty is 4 (3 credit hour) courses per semester (i.e., 4-4 for the academic year). Teaching assignments and teaching loads will be adjusted for large class size, courses with multiple sections, supervisory responsibilities for courses with multiple sections, laboratory supervisory responsibilities, or professional and service activities related to the teaching assignment. It is expected that teaching assignments will be a minimum of 75% of the workload of an NTT teaching faculty position.

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is the largest department on campus, and each program is the largest of its kind in Missouri. The department has 24 internationally recognized tenured/tenure-track faculty, 8 teaching faculty, 11 staff members, over 150 graduate students (including 80 Ph.D. students), over 1,200 undergraduate students, and over 12,000 living alumni.
