Position Announcement

Under the leadership of the Director of Purchasing, this position procures equipment, goods, and services in accordance with the Utah State Procurement Code and the University Procurement Policies. The procurement process includes both formal and informal solicitations, building and maintaining vendor relationships, identifying cost savings and value for the University, and working with applicable departments to ensure their procurement needs are met. This position also assists in internal procurement training and information for all University departments. Responsibilities

  • Work closely with all University departments regarding their procurement needs.
  • Create, evaluate, and award formal and informal procurement solicitations.
  • Counsel and train University faculty and staff on procurement policies.
  • Administer the Purchasing Card (PCard) program for the University.
  • Review and process requisitions to create purchase orders.
  • Understand the role of procurement as it relates to other University business functions, such as Accounts Payable, Finance, Budget, Legal, Information Technology, and Internal Audit.
  • Collect and analyze purchasing data to identify trends that lead to more efficient process and added value.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or a directly related field required. Professional Procurement Certification or currently on the path to certification preferred (CPPB, CPPO, NIGP-CPP, etc.).
  • At least three (3) years' related experience required; purchasing experience within a higher education environment preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of university administration, policies, procedures, contract law and language.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and fiscal management, as well as budgeting in a university academic environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and exercise excellent human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with university employees and the public.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat DC required. Ellucian Banner and U3P (Jagger/SciQuest) experience preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with good attention to detail. Experience drafting specifications for solicitations preferred.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and able to multitask on various projects with various deadlines.


Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $43,000 - $46,000 depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of October 2021.
