Job Summary

The Auburn University Veterans Resource Center is excited to begin the search for a Coordinator to assist and oversee the operations of the Center including planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating University Veterans programs and services. The Veteran’s Resource Center team is searching for candidates who are detail-oriented, problem-solvers by nature, eager to support the success of students, and have an understanding of the veteran student experience. Candidates do not have to have directly-related work experience,as long as they can demonstrate the ability the aptitude to learn the nuances of the role, and the transferable skills that are needed for success.

Formal AU title: Veterans Resource Center Coordinator I/II

Essential Functions
  • Serves as a university Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official.
  • Certify enrollment for students in compliance with VA regulations, including Post-9/11 GI Bill®, Montgomery GI Bill®, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Act as the primary liaison between the institution and the Department of Veterans Affairs, promptly addressinginquiries and resolving issues to facilitate timely disbursement of benefits.
  • Stay up-to-date with law and legislation changes to VA regulations and disseminate relevant information to the team and the student community. Collaborate with academic advisors, financial aid officers, and student services departments to streamline the certification process and enhance the student experience.
  • Advises and instructs students and parents on financial aid issues regarding Federal Veterans Administration education benefits programs and other financial aid, scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships programs.
  • Conducts workshops, activities, and programs intended to educate students and their family members on issues related to their transition to the University environment and the students veterans educational benefits programs.
  • Assists in the coordination and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures for the AUVRC .
  • Educates others on financial aid issues, bursar issues, registrar issues, admissions issues, and graduate and undergraduate degree issues as they are affected by VA educational programs, guidelines, regulations, policies, procedures and laws. Answers questions, writes letters, and/or gives presentations as required to respond to the student or a family members inquiry, veterans administration inquiry, and/or other inquiries from other Universities and entities.
  • Makes recommendations and implements changes/improvements to the AUVRC programs.
  • Represents the AUVRC by participating in state, regional, and national Veteran Administration training programs and conferences.

Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Business, Management, Human Resources, Adult Education, or related field

Level I – Bachelor’s degree

Level II - Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to position plus 2 years of experience in financial aid processes or military/veterans affairs

Level III - Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to position plus 4 years of experience in financial aid processes or military/veterans affairs

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
Graduate degrees accepted in lieu of experience, at a rate of one year relevant education per year of required experience.

  • Desired qualifications include a motivation to serve the veteran population, plus experience in higher education administration, financial aid processing, working with veterans, or prior military experience.
  • Knowledge of federal rules and regulations governing veteran’s benefits and basic student academic policies and procedures is desired.
