The Sport Leadership and Administration program at the University of Massachusetts Boston seeks a full-time non-tenure-track Lecturer (one-year appointment) to join the Department of Counseling and School Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development, beginning Spring 2024. Responsibilities include: (1) teach undergraduate-level courses; (2) advise undergraduate students; (3) assist in the recruitment and selection of new students; and (4) provide service to university, college, and departmental committees, and to professional associations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Internship Coordinator for the Sport Leadership and Administration program. Typically, full-time Non-Tenure Track faculty teach 12-credits every fall and spring semester.

We seek candidates with teaching and professional experience working with socio-culturally diverse populations and who demonstrate a commitment to serving students from minoritized backgrounds. Additionally, we seek candidates whose teaching and professional practices display a comprehensive understanding of inequities within the field of sport; the impact of systemic and structural racism and discrimination on athletes, individuals involved in sport, and the sport industry; and the ways that racial and gender oppression intersect in terms of access, equity, and sport administration, programmatic, and intervention efforts.

Requirements: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Sport Management or a related field (including, but not limited to, sport leadership, sport psychology, exercise science) and evidence of excellence in teaching. The successful candidate would join the Department of Counseling and School Psychology which provides a dynamic environment for faculty and students to engage in nationally recognized research, especially in areas related to equity issues, systems-level change, LGBTQ health and wellness, social justice, transnational, human rights, and global perspectives. Candidates with higher education experience in teaching in a sport leadership, administration, or management program are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applications from individuals from historically excluded and underrepresented communities (e.g., African American/Black, Asian American, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander) are strongly encouraged. We also encourage candidates who integrate community engagement in their teaching consistent with our university’s urban mission (https://www.umb.edu/the_university/mission_values)

The Sport Leadership and Administration Program is housed in the Department of Counseling and School Psychology within the College of Education and Human Development (http://www.umb.edu/academics/cehd).  Our long-standing commitment to diversity is evident in the curriculum we offer and the scholarship we encourage. UMass Boston is committed to ensuring that all students have access to care regardless of their background, immigration status, or how they identify. The Counseling Center is also dedicated to renouncing oppression in all its forms and aims to offer a safe and affirming environment for all members of the UMass Boston community so they feel welcome to seek counseling services.
