Open Rank: Postdoctoral Research Associate/Associate Research Scientist - Network Science/Interdisciplinary
About the Opportunity
The Network Science Institute (NetSI) is growing and establishing a new research hub site at The Roux Institute in Portland, Maine.
NetSI is hiring postdoctoral researchers and research scientists to join a global community of interdisciplinary faculty, researchers, and graduate students. Compensation and title will depend on prior experience for the ranks of Postdoctoral Research Associate and Associate Research Scientist. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.
These fully funded positions are renewable for up to two years pending satisfactory performance. Starting date is negotiable, beginning as early as October 2022. Successful candidates should plan to relocate to Portland, Maine, although the position may start remotely if needed. These positions may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Compensation is competitive and includes benefits. Successful candidates will be affiliated both with the Network Science Institute and The Roux Institute.
These joint NetSI-Roux positions target early career interdisciplinary computational scientists with a particular focus on candidates with prior research experience and/or interest in expanding their research at the intersection between network science, data science, epidemiology, economics, computational social science, urban science, climate science, and artificial intelligence.
The range of potential research projects may include, but it is not limited to: real-time modeling and forecasting of large scale epidemics; modeling of human mobility and contact patterns using high resolution geolocation data; utilizing mobility networks to predict economic growth and study segregation and inequality; studying how structural social and economic inequities shape disease dynamics; incorporating human behavior, socio-economic characteristics, and the effects of misinformation in large scale epidemiological models; developing hybrid mechanistic and deep learning frameworks to accelerate stochastic simulations; developing innovative statistical/machine learning methodologies for spatio-temporal forecasting; developing unified modeling frameworks that combine the effects of climate change, circulation of infectious diseases, and the dynamics of economic-financial systems; studying and modeling of socio, economic, and financial networks; etc..
Responsibilities
- Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and
experiments
- Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant
proposals, etc.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and collaborative
environment
- Collaborate with the principal investigator and students across
multiple academic and industry organizations
- Potential additional responsibilities, depending on position
seniority, include: assist in laboratory management, graduate
student training/advising, and co-op student mentoring
The individuals filling these positions will also be expected to actively participate in the community by organizing and attending scientific talks, workshops, and conferences; by engaging with The Roux Institute community, which includes faculty, researchers, graduate students, and industry researchers (co-located at the Roux Institute); and with the doctoral trainees enrolled in the NetSI PhD program in Network Science.
Qualifications
