Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is a part-time, non-unit position with no benefits.

The part-time Embedded ESL Support Staff will be responsible for supporting student success of multilingual students in the Practical Nursing Program by clarifying specific course content, facilitating study sessions, and modeling group-based, problem-solving skills using best practices in ESL instruction.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Work collaboratively with program director to build a cohesive support program and to respond in a professional manner to diverse student needs;
  • Assist students in review of subject areas with particular emphasis on language support, in conjunction with course schedules (based on the current implementation guide), for courses in the Practical Nursing curriculum;
  • Facilitate group review sessions to aid comprehension using material provided by the Department Chair and Program Director, using case studies, NCLEX-style practice questions, and group discussions;
  • Offer remote, online, and on campus support sessions, as necessary, to meet student needs;
  • Evaluate student progress and identify students who may need additional support from other areas of the College, including the Accessibility Resource Center, the
  • Academic Achievement Center, and Student Development;
  • Meet individually with students, as necessary, and record summaries of hours, students' names, course/cohorts, times of meetings, etc;
  • Respect students' rights to confidentiality;
  • Assist in maintaining a disturbance-free environment conducive to learning;
  • Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the College.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree, or higher in Nursing, from an accredited college or university;
  • Current, unrestricted Massachusetts License to practice as a registered nurse;
  • Current knowledge and experience in the nursing field;
  • Comfort with learning management systems and videoconferencing tools;
  • Passion for and interest in supporting pre-licensure nursing students;
  • Prior experience supporting students through tutoring or other forms of academic support;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication and presentation skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Willingness to use best practices in ESL instructions to support student success.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Familiarity with concept-based approach to nursing education;
  • Multilingual or experience teaching or supporting multilingual students;
  • Prior experience in student tutoring or other forms of academic support.
  • M.A. in Nursing.

Salary Range: $35 per hour
